IC 4538 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBc in the constellation Libra on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 125 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 95,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky there are u. a. the galaxies NGC 5898 and NGC 5903 .
The object was discovered by Lewis Swift on May 26, 1895 .
