IC 4617 is a spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type Sbc in the constellation Hercules. It is estimated to be 496 million light years from the Milky Way and about 175,000 light years across.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the objects NGC 6199 , NGC 6205 , NGC 6207 .
The object was discovered by Edward Emerson Barnard .
