IC 4686 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type S in the constellation Peacock on southern sky. It is around 218 million light years from the Milky Way and has a diameter, including the area obscured by IC 4687, of around 35,000 light years .
IC 4686 forms together with IC 4687 and IC 4689 an interactive galaxy trio.
The galaxy IC 4686 was discovered on August 1, 1904 by the American astronomer Royal Harwood Frost .
