Imielin [ iˈmʲɛlin ] ( German Imielin , 1939–1945 Immenau OS or Immenau (Kr. Pleß) ) is a town with about 8,000 inhabitants in Poland . It is located 18 km southeast of Katowice and belongs to the powiat Bieruńsko-Lędziński , Silesian Voivodeship .

history

Imielin was first mentioned in 1386 and was part of the Duchy of Ratibor , whose eastern border was the Przemsza . Due to the extensive forests in the headwaters of the Klodnitz and Mleczna, Imielin and its neighboring towns Kosztow and Chełm Śląski were cut off from the territory of the duchy. In 1391, Duke Johann II von Troppau , Jägerndorf , Freudenthal and Ratibor donated this area in the east of his duchy to the Bishop of Cracow . Until 1742, the three places were not considered part of Silesia because the Kraków bishops also exercised sovereignty. After the conquest of Silesia by Prussia , Frederick II took back the sovereign rights that had been assumed by the diocese in 1772. In 1796 the diocese also gave up real estate and the royal Prussian office of Imielin was established.

In 1802 Alt Gatsch (Stara Gać) was founded as a daughter settlement of the German colony Anhalt ( Hołdunów ), which was part of the estate of Pless, followed in 1820 by New Gatsch (Nowa Gać).

In 1807, the Prince of Sewerien (Siewierz) appointed by the Grand Duchy of Warsaw , Jean Lannes, Duke of Montebello , derived his claims to Imielin from the fact that this area had belonged to the Diocese of Krakow together with Sewerien . In 1817 Prussia achieved the return of the Imielin office, which in 1818 was incorporated into the newly formed Pleß district.

Due to its good traffic situation to the cities of Katowice , Auschwitz and Tichau , Imielin grew into a place of residence for workers in these industrial cities in the 20th century, but companies also settled in the village.

After the referendum in Upper Silesia in 1921, Imielin became part of the Polish East Upper Silesia in 1922 . After the occupation following the attack on Poland in September 1939, Immenau (Kr. Pleß) belonged to the German Reich until 1945.

After the Second World War, Gać (Gatsch) came to Imielin. Imielin has been a town-like settlement since 1957 and received town charter in 1967. 1973 the places Chełm Śląski , Dziećkowice (Dzietzkowitz) and Kopciowice (Kopziowitz) were incorporated into the urban and rural municipality Imielin. In the course of the municipal reform of 1975, the city of Imielin lost its independence and was added to the city of Tychy . From 1977 Imielin was a district of Mysłowice . In 1995 the city regained its independence.

The town of Dąb (Domb), east of the Przemsa reservoir (Dziećkowice water reservoir), also belongs to the town of Imielin.
