Neighboring cities

In the north lies Mysłowice ( Myslowitz ), east Imielin ( Imielin ), southeast Chełm Śląski ( Groß Chelm ), south Bieruń and a little further west Tychy ( Tichau ).

history

The area belonged to a "no man's land" during the tribal era, which separated the Wislanes in the east from the Opolans and the Golensizen in the west and was only settled as part of Lesser Poland in the 11th and 12th centuries . However, the place is on the western edge of the sub-area of Upper Silesia , which was spun off from the Duchy of Krakow in 1177/1179 and came to the Duchy of Ratibor , which was ruled by the Silesian Piasts . It was from this time that it belonged to the Diocese of Krakow until 1821 (then to the Diocese of Breslau , from 1925 to the Diocese of Katowice ).

The first written mention of the place comes from the twelfth century. The village consisted of two parts, one belonging to the Benedictine monastery in Staniątki and the other belonging to the Principality of Ratibor . In 1555 the two parts of the village were merged.

Lendzin came from the Habsburg monarchy to Prussia in 1742 . Coal mining began here in the first half of the nineteenth century.

As part of the provisions of the Versailles Treaty , Lendzin had to be ceded to Poland in 1922 . During the Second World War there were several labor camps in the city that were subordinate to the Auschwitz concentration camp . After the town was captured by the Red Army on January 27, 1945, shortly before the end of the war, it was placed under Polish administration by the Soviet occupying forces in the summer of 1945 .

In November 1945 Lędziny became the seat of the Lędziny municipality, which consisted of Lędziny, Hołdunów and Smardzowice. In 1951 the municipality was renamed Hołdunów. In 1966 Lędziny received town charter. From 1975 to 1998 it was part of the Katowice Voivodeship . With the administrative reform of 1975 the city became part of Tychy , in April 1991 Lędziny became independent again as an independent city. Since January 1st, 2002 the municipality belongs to the Bieruńsko-Lędziński powiat.
