Inside Your Skin is a Canadian drama film by director Vincent Perez , released in 2007, on the subject of transmigration of souls , see also Out of Body Experience . Ann Cherkis wrote the script . The novel Himitsu by Keigo Higashino and the script of the first film from 1999 served as a template.

action

The family life of the ophthalmologist Ben Marris experiences a sudden change when his wife dies in an accident. His wife lives on in the body of his daughter Sam, who survived the accident seriously injured. Hannah is initially confused that she is being called Sam. The attending physicians attribute their behavior to a temporary state of shock . Hannah is shocked once more when she learns from Sam's friends at her “own funeral ” that Sam wished her mother to die. The mother-daughter relationship was disturbed.

Hannah desires her husband, but Ben can't bring himself to have sex with his daughter's body , even if he believes his wife's assurances that he will continue to live in Sam's body.

To keep up appearances, Hannah has to get on with her daughter's life and go to school in Sam's place. After initial difficulties, she finds pleasure in teenage life, the parties and everyday school life. Hannah is turning more and more into a teenager and the discussions between Ben and Hannah are more and more similar to those between father and daughter. After a drug trip with friends, Sam's soul returns to her body , first for a day and then forever. Hannah's soul has now finally said goodbye.

Background information

The story was filmed in 1999 by Yojiro Takita under the novel title Himitsu . The production of the local version lasted from April 4, 2005 to July 9, 2006 and cost 10 million euros. The film was shot in the Canadian city of Montreal . When designing the film sets , the director was inspired by pictures by the painter Edward Hopper .

For New York actress Olivia Thirlby , it was one of her first film roles after completing her acting training at the theater. During the casting process, director Vincent Perez selected her from over 300 young girls and was surprised that an actress inexperienced in the film industry can perform so well in front of the camera. Quote: “ During the filming , Olivia turned out to be brilliant, dedicated, intelligent and permissive. “Perez was even ready to cancel the film project Si j'étais toi (Eng.“ If I were you ”) entirely, if Olivia Thirlby should not take the lead role.

Craig Walker of the English indie rock band Archive created the soundtrack for the film .

The film was released in French cinemas on October 10, 2007 . In Germany he is on since 2008 DVD available, but was never in the movies shown.
