Magdeburg-Industriehafen is a district of the city of Magdeburg .
It has an area of 3.6346 km², but has only 184 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2016). The district mainly serves commercial purposes. The port industry is a traditional focus.
economy
The economy of the district is characterized by the handling of petroleum and recycling products, as well as goods from agriculture and general cargo.
The Magdeburg port , the largest inland port in East Germany, is largely located in the district. It is conveniently located directly at the largest waterway junction in Europe and close to the federal motorway 2 . About the same are Hamburg and Prague and the Mittellandkanal the Ruhr and Berlin reached. The port area is connected to the Federal Motorway 2 via the expanded August-Bebel-Damm and also has a rail link.
history
The industrial port was built between 1908 and 1911 in order to guarantee a direct port connection for the newly settled businesses. The port throughput has fallen sharply in this area, only in the northern part is there a larger throughput. The most recent new settlements in the east include a wood processor and a biodiesel producer.
Buildings / sights
- Herrenkrugsteg , (popularly also called "Golden Gate") - a suspension bridge (pedestrian bridge) over the Elbe, with a length of 630 meters.
- Formerly in the area of the district there was the intermediate plant VIII a belonging to the Magdeburg Fortress .
- Two lock basins and walls of the Magdeburg Neustadt double lock, which was completed in the Second World War but subsequently damaged and dismantled , which should make the port with access to the Rothensee ship lift independent of the Elbe level. In the course of the expansion of the waterway intersection, the Magdeburg low-water lock was built with this very function further north .
