Sketch of the location of the Eiringsburg

history

The approximately 120 × 65 meter large system, with a pincer gate system , was first mentioned in 822. A Franconian nobleman by the name of Iring gave all his possessions in Kissingen and Lollbach, probably today's Arnshausen, along with 12 unfree people, to the Fulda monastery on December 25th of this year . It is estimated that the castle was built in the 7th century AD. Presumably the Eiringsburg was only a refugee castle and not a seat of power. Excavations took place in 1910 and 1974.
