The Isorno is a 24-kilometer-long river that has its source in the Italian region of Piedmont and flows into the Melezza from the left in the Swiss canton of Ticino . It flows through the Onsernone Valley and drains an area of around 147 square kilometers.
course
The Isorno has its source at the Pizzo di Madéi border summit ( 2551 m above sea level ) and flows mainly in a south-easterly direction. It flows through the upper section of the Onsernone Valley, which is separated from the rest of Italy by mountains. It joins the Onsernone at Fondo Isorno , takes up the Rio Cortaccio at Alpe Fondo Monfraccio and is now called Rio dei Bagni according to the Swiss national map until it reaches the Swiss border a little later at the Bagni di Craveggia . Again as Isorno, it forms the state border between Italy and Switzerland over a length of about 470 meters. It then passes the villages of Spruga , Comologno , Corbella , Vocaglia , Crana and Russo , which are situated on the hillside above the river , where it receives the main tributary, Ribo . It continues to flow past Mosogno , Berzona and Loco . At Auressio it makes a bend towards the south and flows into the Melezza at Intragna , which flows into the Maggia a little later .
