The Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport , originally Ithaca Municipal Airport , is a regional airport in the City of Ithaca in New York in the United States . The airport is currently the only commercial airport in the county and is mainly used by regional airlines. The terminal has a passenger boarding bridge .
Location and transport links
Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport is located six kilometers northeast of downtown Ithaca. Most of it is in the Lansing area . The New York State Route 13 runs south of the airport. The Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport is buses in the public transport involved, the routes 32 and 72 of the operator TCAT connect the airport regularly with the center of Ithaca.
history
The regional airport was opened in 1948 by Cornell University as a replacement for the first Ithaca Municipal Airport, which was located west of Ithaca on Cayuga Lake . Robinson Airlines , which started operating from the old airfield in 1945, relocated to the new airport in the same year. After the airline, renamed Mohawk Airlines , moved its headquarters to Utica in 1956, Ithaca Municipal Airport was sold to the administration of Tompkins County that same year and has been in municipal hands since then.
