The Westchester County Airport ( IATA code : HPN , ICAO code : KHPN ; and White Plains Airport ) is the commercial airport of American small-town White Plains in Westchester County in the US state of New York .
Location and transport links
Westchester County Airport is located six kilometers northeast of downtown White Plains and 47 kilometers northeast of downtown New York City. It lies on the border with the US state Connecticut . The Interstate 684 and the New York State Route 120 pass west of the airport.
The Westchester County Airport is buses in the public transport involved. Route 12 of the Bee-Line Bus System runs to him regularly.
history
The airport was built from 1942 to 1943 as the base of the United States Army Air Forces . It was opened for civil use in February 1945. From 1952, the New York Air National Guard used Westchester County Airport militarily. In 1977 AFCO AvPORTS took over operation of the airport. In 1983 the New York Air National Guard units were relocated to Stewart Airport .

Incidents
- On February 11, 1981, a Lockheed L-1329 JetStar ( aircraft registration number N520S ) of Texasgulf Aviation , the flight operator of Texasgulf , crashed into a forest while approaching runway 16. Both crew members and all six passengers, including the Chief Executive Officer of Texasgulf, were killed.
