İzmir Airlines ( Turkish İzmir Hava Yolları , outside IZair ) was a Turkish airline based in Izmir and based at Izmir Airport .
history
İzmir Airlines was founded by an association of 114 business people from Izmir in April 2005. The board consisted of the three members Metin Akdurak, Necmi Çalışkan and Jak Eskinazi. The CEO was Ekrem Demirtaş.
The reasons for the decision to introduce the new airline were both the approved project to expand the İzmir airport and the discontinuation of Turkish Airlines' direct flights between Izmir and various European cities. The company's goal is to transport one million passengers and 2000 tons of cargo per year on 8500 flights.
On March 20, 2007, ESAS Holding , to whose group of companies Pegasus Airlines belongs, meanwhile acquired 100% of the company shares. In the period that followed, a cooperation between the two airlines developed.
Since autumn 2011, İzmir Airlines has been operating several of its aircraft for the Air Berlin Turkey brand , a cooperation between Air Berlin and Pegasus Airlines. In April 2012 it was announced that Air Berlin wanted to buy shares in İzmir Airlines, but this was not implemented.
In winter 2012, the operation of Air Berlin Turkey including three Boeing 737-800s was taken over by Pegasus Airlines, İzmir Airlines then stopped operating aircraft until summer 2013. Air Berlin Turkey was dissolved in March 2013.
At the end of 2018, IZair was merged with the mother Pegasus.
Destinations
İzmir Airlines most recently operated domestic flights for Pegasus Airlines. Even European destinations such as Munich , Basel and Amsterdam were served.
fleet
As of August 2018, İzmir Airlines no longer had its own aircraft.
In the past, Airbus A319-100 and A320-200 were operated, as well as five Boeing 737-800s specially for Pegasus Airlines .
