Jürgen Brötz

Jürgen Brötz is a Brigadier General of the Army of the Armed Forces .

Military career

Training and first uses

Promotions

Brötz joined the German Armed Forces in 1984 as a conscript . In 1987 he switched to the officer career and completed his training as an officer in the armored infantry troop . From 1988 to 1993 he was used as a platoon leader in the Panzer Grenadier Battalion 142 in Neustadt . In 1993 and 1994 further assignments followed as platoon leader with the Panzergrenadierbataillon 152 in Schwarzenborn and with the Fallschirmjägerbataillon 314 in Oldenburg . From 1994 to 1995 he was employed with the paratrooper battalion 314 as an S2 officer (military intelligence) and from 1995 to 1998 as a company commander. He then completed the 41st general staff course from 1998 to 2000 at the command academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg.

Service as a staff officer

The first employment as a staff officer led Brötz from 2000 to 2001 as staff officer G2 ( assessment of the enemy situation , intelligence gathering and reconnaissance , targeting, military security , geo-information) for the 7th Panzer Division in Düsseldorf . From 2001 to 2002 he was employed as staff officer G3 and chief of staff at Panzerbrigade 42 in Potsdam . This was followed by a deployment of troops from 2002 to 2004 as commander of the 212 Panzer Grenadier Battalion in Augustdorf . In 2004 he was after Bonn displaced where he was speaker in the Joint Staff of the Armed Forces in the Federal Ministry of Defense worked. Another ministerial assignment followed from 2005 to 2008, this time as Deputy Office Manager at the State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Defense in Bonn and Berlin . Brötz was then transferred to Hanover , where he was employed as head of the G2 department in the 1st Panzer Division from 2008 to 2010 . From 2011 to 2012 Brötz was employed as a group leader in the Office for Military Studies in Berlin. This was followed by another ministerial assignment from 2012 to 2016, this time as Head of Strategy and Operations at the Federal Ministry of Defense in Berlin.

Service as a general

In 2016, Brötz became Head of the Strategy and Operations I department in the Federal Ministry of Defense in Berlin. Associated with this was the promotion to brigadier general. In July 2019, Brötz handed over his post as sub-department head to Colonel Achim Werres in order to prepare for the assignment abroad. On August 21, 2019, Brötz, succeeding Brigadier General Gerhard Ernst-Peter Klaffus, became Commander Train Advise and Assist Command North (TAAC-N) and contingent leader of the German Resolute Support contingent in Mazar-e Sharif ( Afghanistan ). He handed over this post to Brigadier General Ansgar Meyer on August 20, 2020 .

Private

Brötz is married and has two children.
