Ansgar Meyer (born April 24, 1965 in Lorup ) is a brigadier general of the Army of the German Armed Forces and has been in command of Train Advise and Assist Command North (TAAC-N) and contingent leader of the German Resolute Support contingent in Mazar-e Sharif ( Afghanistan ) since August 2020 .

Military career

Training and first uses

Meyer joined the German Armed Forces in 1984 as a conscript with the 523 tank battalion in Lingen (Ems) , where he trained as a reserve officer until 1986 . There followed the 1987-1988 troops genus-specific training as a tank officer in the Tank Battalion 314 in Oldenburg . It joined several platoon leader uses to: from 1988 to 1990 as a platoon leader in the Tank Battalion 523 from 1990 to 1991 as the anti-tank platoon commander in Battalion 522 in Fuerstenau from 1991 to 1992 at the Panzer Lehr Battalion 94 in Munster , and 1,992 to 1,993 in the Panzer Lehr Battalion 93 also in Munster . The first assignment as a staff officer led Meyer from 2001 to 2003 as a staff officer G3 to the Army Command in Koblenz . He then completed the British General Staff Training at the Joint Command and Staff College in Shrivenham ( United Kingdom ) from 2003 to 2004 . From 2004 to 2006 Meyer was Chief of Staff of the Panzer Grenadier Brigade 41 Vorpommern in Torgelow . This was followed from 2006 to 2008 as battalion commander of tank battalion 413, also in Torgelow. From 2008 to 2009 Meyer was a consultant in Section I 3 Internal and Social Situation of the Armed Forces in the command staff of the Armed Forces in the Federal Ministry of Defense in Bonn . From 2010 to 2012 he was employed as a consultant and personnel manager in the Personnel Department at the Federal Ministry of Defense, based in Bonn. From 2013 to 2014 Meyer was Head of Division III 1.2 in the Army Personnel Management subdivision in the Federal Office for Personnel Management of the Bundeswehr in Cologne , and from 2014 to 2015 he was subdivision head of the same subdivision. From 2015 to 2016 he was employed as a sub-department head of operations abroad in the command armed forces base in Bonn. From 2016 to 2018 Meyer was Head of Division P II Personnel Development Military Personnel; Individual personnel management of officers to B 3 and higher rated posts including officers AMK / BAMAD ; Coordination of domestic military personnel in the personnel department at the Federal Ministry of Defense in Bonn.

Service as a general

On June 7, 2018, Meyer took over command of Panzerbrigade 21 in Augustdorf from Brigadier General Heico Huebner . On June 15, 2019, he was appointed Brigadier General in this post. On July 10, 2020, Meyer handed over command of the brigade to the then Colonel Stephan Willer . On August 20, 2020, Meyer became the successor of Brigadier General Jürgen Brötz , Commander Train Advise and Assist Command North (TAAC-N) and contingent leader of the German contingent Resolute Support in Mazar-e Sharif ( Afghanistan ).

Federal Defense Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer announced on June 15, 2021 that Meyer would be the new commander of the Special Forces Command from September 2021 . He is there to Markus Kreitmayr replace, against the service- and criminal investigations are conducted.
