Jesper Damgaard (born May 6, 1975 in Holstebro ) is a former Danish ice hockey player .

Career

Jesper Damgaard began his career as a hockey player in his Danish homeland in the AL-Bank Ligaen with the Herning Blue Fox , with whom he became Danish champion straight away in the 1991/92 season . After two years in the professional team from Herning, he moved to the Malmö Redhawks , for which he made his debut in the Swedish Elitserien in the 1993/94 season . The defender stayed in Malmö for the next six years before playing for Revierlöwen Oberhausen in the German Ice Hockey League from 2000 to 2002 . He then returned to Sweden, where he was under contract with MODO Hockey Örnsköldsvik in the Elitserien for four seasons . At MODO he was assistant captain from 2004 to 2006. For the 2006/07 season , Damgaard moved again to the DEL, in which he was obliged by the Augsburg Panthers , which he left after only one year. He ended the season at HC Lugano from the Swiss National League A , for which he played a total of two games.

In the summer of 2007 Damgaard returned to Denmark for the first time in 14 years when he joined the Rødovre Mighty Bulls from AL-Bank Ligaen. In the season with the highest points in his career, the right-handed shooter scored a total of 31 points in 45 games, including four goals and won the Danish ice hockey cup with his team. He was also named Player of the Year for the AL-Bank Ligaen and was elected to their All-Star Team. The Dane was then given the opportunity to play again for his former Swedish club Malmö Redhawks. In the meantime, the team was relegated to the second-rate HockeyAllsvenskan . In the 2008/09 season he scored as team captain in 33 games, he scored a total of 14 scorer points, including five goals. In the following two seasons, the veteran also played regularly for Malmö, with whom he also took part in the European Trophy in preparation for the 2010 season . Following the 2010/11 season, Damgaard ended his career.

International

For Denmark Damgaard took part in the junior division in the U18 Junior B European Championships in 1992 and 1993 and U20 Junior C World Championships in 1993 , 1994 and 1995 .

In the senior sector, he took part in the B-World Championships in 1994 , 1995 , 1997 , 1999 , 2000 , 2001 and 2002 for Denmark . He was also part of Denmark's squad at the A World Championships in 2003 , 2004 , 2005 , 2006 , 2007 , 2008 , 2009 and 2010 . He was also in his country's squad at the qualifying tournaments for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin and 2010 in Vancouver . From 2007 to 2010 Damgaard was Denmark's team captain.
