Jiří Kochta (born October 11, 1946 in Prague ) is a former Czech ice hockey player and coach who played for many years in the top division of Czechoslovakia and the national ice hockey league . As a trainer, he was in charge of the Mannheim ERC , Revierlöwen Oberhausen and ES Weißwasser in the top German league.
Career
As a hockey player
As a teenager he started with the Bohemians Prague with the ice hockey and moved in 1965 as part of his military service to the army sports club ASD Dukla Jihlava . In the following three seasons he was Czechoslovakian champion twice and moved to Sparta Prague in 1968 , where he played until 1979.
In the 1979/80 season he came to EV Landshut and was the best in the league with 81 assists. Only his teammate Erich Kühnhackl had more points than Kochta, who with 144 points was 46 points ahead of third, Marcus Kuhl . Even a year later, it wasn't enough for the top scorer. He was missing one point on Dick Decloe . Then, surprisingly, he switched to the 2nd Bundesliga for EHC 70 Munich , which went bankrupt during the season.
While Kochta was expecting another change, he said goodbye to high-class ice hockey and became player-coach at the newly founded EC Hedos Munich . Some young players grew up under his wing in Munich, and with Kochta the team rose year after year. In 1986 he finally hung up his skates.
International
Kochta participated in several international competitions such as Olympics 1968 , 1972 Olympics and World Ice Hockey Championships (1971, 1972, 1973, 1974) in part. He won the gold medal at the 1972 World Cup, silver (1968) and bronze (1972) at the Olympics.
As an ice hockey coach
In the lower leagues with the EC Hedos, Kochta tried to concentrate more and more on the coaching role and only to intervene in the game on the ice if necessary. His dismissal after promotion to the league came as a surprise. He only worked as a coach in the 1986/87 season in Italy at HC Meran and 1987/88 at EV Füssen . He then returned to Munich and led the EC Hedos Munich team into the Bundesliga . In the turbulent times in Munich ice hockey , not only was the entire team turned inside out, but a new coach was also hired.
Subsequently, he trained the EHC Klostersee , the Heilbronner EC , SC Memmingen , the Bundesliga team of the Mannheim ERC , the EHC Biel in Switzerland and the DEL teams SG Füchse Sachsen and Revierlöwen Oberhausen .
Since the middle of the 2002/03 season he trained the team of the Dresden Ice Lions . In 2005 he made it with them to move up from the league to the 2nd ice hockey Bundesliga and immediately formed a competitive team that advanced to the semi-finals of the playoffs . In the following season this success could not be repeated and after a series of defeats Kochta resigned from his office in early February 2007.
One of Kochta's great passions is tennis. He took great care of the careers of his daughters Marketa and Renata Kochta , born in 1975 and 1973 , who competed in all four Grand Slam tournaments in 1994 and won victories against Gabriela Sabatini and Anke Huber , among others .
