João Miranda de Souza Filho (born September 7, 1984 in Paranavaí ), or Miranda for short , is a Brazilian soccer player who has been under contract with Jiangsu Suning since 2019 . His preferred position is central defense .

Career

society

Born in the state of Paraná in southern Brazil, Miranda began his career in adult football with Coritiba FC in the state capital, Curitiba . For this club he completed 89 games (six hits). At the end of July 2005 he moved to France for FC Sochaux and signed a contract with a term of over four years. For the club he played in 20 point games, but could not prevail. In August 2006 he returned to Brazil on loan to the São Paulo FC , which signed him in March 2007. In the years 2006 to 2008 Miranda won the Campeonato Brasileiro de Futebol with the club . From 2007 to 2010 he was elected to the team of the year and also received the Bola de Prata in 2008 and 2009 . His contract with São Paulo FC ran until June 30, 2011.

In January 2011 Miranda signed a three-year contract in Spain with Atlético Madrid , which was valid from July 1, 2011. On August 25, 2011, he ran in the 4-0 win in the second leg in the play-offs of the UEFA Europa League against Vitória Guimarães for the first time for the Madrilenians. His first game in La Liga , he completed September 10, 2011 at 0: 1 against FC Valencia . On March 11, 2012 Miranda scored his first goal for Atlético Madrid in a 2-0 win over Granada CF. At the end of the season, Miranda had 42 appearances across all competitions and he won the UEFA Europa League with the club . As Europa League winners, Atlético Madrid took part in the UEFA Super Cup at the end of August 2012, in which Chelsea FC were beaten 4-1. Miranda scored the 4-0 goal. In all three competitions, Miranda played 45 games. In the Copa del Rey , he reached the final with the club, in which city rivals Real Madrid were defeated. He succeeded in the extension of the 2-1 winner. Meanwhile, Miranda extended his contract until June 30, 2016. In the 2013/14 season, Atlético Madrid and Miranda lost 1-1 to FC Barcelona in the Supercopa after a return match . This season he was used in 50 games across all competitions and reached the final of the UEFA Champions League with Atlético Madrid . There Atlético Madrid lost 4-1 after extra time against Real Madrid after a 1-0 lead that lasted into stoppage time. At the end of the season, Miranda was voted the best defender in the league with his club mate and compatriot Filipe Luís and Sergio Ramos of Real Madrid. In the 2014/15 season he made 34 appearances in the Copa del Rey , the league and the UEFA Champions League .

For the 2015/16 season Miranda switched to Serie A on loan for two years to Inter Milan , which signed him on July 20, 2016. On August 23, 2015, he played for the Neazzurri for the first time in a 1-0 win against Atalanta Bergamo . On February 20, 2016, he scored his first goal against Sampdoria Genoa . Miranda made 32 appearances in his first season and qualified fourth for the 2016/17 UEFA Europa League . In the Coppa Italia, the Milanese were eliminated in the semi-finals against Juventus Turin , with Miranda making two appearances in the competition. In the following season he came to three appearances in the Europa League and was eliminated with the club after the group stage. Meanwhile, the Milanese were eliminated in the quarter-finals, while in the league with seventh place in the table, the qualification for the international competition was missed. Miranda came here to 32 missions. In the 2017/18 season he was only used in the league, in which he played 32 games. Fourth in the table qualified for the 2017/18 UEFA Champions League .

Despite the contract that ran until 2020, Miranda moved to China in July 2019 , where he signed a contract with Jiangsu Suning .

National team

Miranda made her debut on April 1, 2009 under coach Dunga in the World Cup qualifier in Porto Alegre against Peru in the Brazilian national team . In the same year he won the Confederations Cup with Brazil in 2009 . After a goalless draw on October 14, 2009 in the World Cup qualifier against Venezuela in Campo Grande , he received no invitation for the Brazilian national team for three and a half years and only belonged under Luiz Felipe Scolari on February 6, 2013 in the 2-1 defeat in the friendly match London Wembley Stadium against England to the squad, where he was not used. In the following years he did not receive a nomination for a year and was not part of the squad at the 2014 World Cup in his own country .

After the tournament, Dunga succeeded Scolari. Thereupon Miranda rose to a regular player in the central defense of the Brazilian national team and was part of the team at the Copa America 2015 in Chile , where he was used in all four Brazilian games; he was eliminated with the team in the quarterfinals on penalties against Paraguay . A year later he was part of the Brazilian squad at the Copa America Centenario in the United States and played in the third group match against Peru, but could not prevent the Brazilian national team from being eliminated after the group stage. After the tournament, Dunga was fired and replaced by Tite . This nominated Miranda in May 2018 after 17 appearances in the qualification in the Brazilian squad for the World Cup 2018 in Russia , where he was used in all games of his team. Brazil was eliminated in the quarter-finals against Belgium . Also during the 2019 Copa América Miranda was in the squad of the team. With this he was able to win the title. He was only used in the semi-finals against Argentina when he came on for Marquinhos in the 64th minute .
