The Protestant Johann Christoph Blumhardt Church on Buckower Damm 57 at the corner of Schlosserweg in the Berlin district of Britz in the Neukölln district was built by Günther Behrmann in 1963–1964. A few years earlier, the same architect had built a community center with youth rooms and a rectory on the neighboring property .

history

At the beginning of the 1930s, several settlements were built on the site of the former Britz manor district as part of job creation. The residents of the settlements either went to the Britz village church or the Buckow village church for services. After the Second World War , refugee settlements with tenement houses were built on the previously agricultural land . The parish of the Britz village church is therefore divided for the first time in 1956 and the Hephatha parish founded. Another parish base, which saved the believers the long way to the village church, was built in a classroom after the harvest festival in 1956 . Weekly services were held there. At the beginning of 1957, the first church service room was opened in the basement of the house at Buckower Damm 126. The community belonged to the village church of Britz until June 30, 1958 as the district of Windmühle . The community that Johann Christoph Blumhardt chose as its namesake emerged from this district . The Blumhardtgemeinde initially received a wooden house that served as a provisional community center. Behrmann then designed the final community center. The foundation stone was laid on November 15, 1959, its topping-out ceremony on April 7, 1960 and the house was occupied on July 10, 1960. In front of it a steel frame with three bells was erected, in the community hall a small organ with a manual from EF Walcker & Cie. A church building association was founded before the community center was inaugurated . The foundation stone for a church with 250 seats was laid on April 26, 1964, the topping-out ceremony on July 29, 1964 and finally the inauguration on December 20, 1964 . The organ was moved to the new church. However, its sound was too thin for the large room, so it was sold. In 1967 a new organ with 15 registers , divided into two manuals and a pedal , was purchased.

Building description

The connection between the tent-like structure and a polygonal floor plan has been one of the essential features of modern sacred buildings in Berlin since the 1950s . A typical example is the Johann Christoph Blumhardt Church, which, in contrast to the complex shape of other churches, is clear and easy to understand. The church, a reinforced concrete - skeleton on the plan of a isosceles triangle , is a tent roof mounted, the nine columns of light concrete is worn. Below the eaves there is a low, all-round window band, which is only interrupted by the narrow concrete supports. In this way, the impression of a roof floating slightly above the structure is promoted. The masonry of the walls is clad with slate inside and out . The inside of the tent roof is clad in wood.

The nave has a flat annex where the entrance is located.

The campanile consists of two wall panels . The bell chamber received lamellas as a cover . The ringing consists of three bronze bells, which were made in 1960 by Petit & Gebr. Edelbrock .
