Johann Andreas Buttstedt

Johann Andreas Buttstedt (born September 19, 1701 in Kirchheim near Erfurt , † March 14, 1765 in Erlangen ) was a German Protestant clergyman and university professor.

Life

Johann Andreas Buttstedt was the son of the cantor Johann Jacob Buttstedt and his wife Marie Cathrine (née Schneidewind).

He received private tuition, attended the Andreas School in Erfurt and in 1712 came to the Lyceum in Sangerhausen to the Rector Henneberg.

In the summer semester of 1723 he enrolled at the University of Jena to study philology , philosophy and theology and attended lectures by Johann Franz Buddeus , Johann Georg Walch , Johann Reinhard Rus , Christian Stock (1672–1733), Johann Jacob Syrbius and Johann Jacob Lehmann (1683-1740).

In 1726 he passed the first theological exam in Erfurt and was admitted as a candidate; In the winter semester of 1731/1732 he studied at the University of Helmstedt and heard lectures from Johann Lorenz von Mosheim .

In 1729 he received his doctorate at the University of Wittenberg for a Magister phil. and held lectures as a private lecturer at the University of Helmstedt on Wolf's philosophy .

In 1732 he became school rector in Osterrode am Harz , 1741 at the Andreanum grammar school in Hildesheim , two years later at the Rutheneum grammar school in Gera and in 1751 he became director and professor of theology at the Casimirianum grammar school in Coburg , at the same time he was inspector of the council school there.

At the end of 1761 he was appointed full second professor of theology at the University of Erlangen and was at the same time pastor of the old town, in that year he was also accepted into the Senate and in July 1763 at the theological faculty . During the winter semester of 1762/1763 he was prorector of the University of Erlangen.

Johann Andreas Buttstedt was married to Agnes Elisabeth (née Grubeling, also Grübbelingen); together they had nine children.
