Johann Gerhard Huck (also: Huch baptized January 25, 1758 in Düsseldorf ; † August 16, 1811 in Hanover ) was a German court - engraver , graphic artist and etcher , draftsman and painter .

Life

Huck, son of the art dealer Johann Gottfried Huck, initially worked at the Düsseldorf Art Academy (" Galerie zu Düsseldorf "), then went to London in 1782 to be trained in mezzotint by the famous copper engraver Valentine Green (1739-1813) .

From 1784 to 1786, Huck exhibited drawings and paintings at the Royal Academy of Arts .

In 1788 Huck returned to Germany, where from 1789 he supervised the production of the painting copies in the Düsseldorf court gallery. In 1792 he engraved three sheets on the occasion of the golden wedding anniversary and the accession of elector Karl Theodor .

In 1796, Huck settled in Hanover and founded there in 1800, according to the Hanover address book for 1801, under the name Huch in Steinweg in Calenberger Neustadt or under the name "IG Huck" in Calenberger Strasse at number 231 or an art academy .

In addition, Huck worked as curator of the painting collection of Count Johann Ludwig von Wallmoden-Gimborn (1736–1811). After 1796 he was court copper engraver in Hanover. He also worked temporarily for the Chalkographische Gesellschaft zu Dessau .

One of his students in Düsseldorf was Johann Joseph Freidhoff (1768–1818), in Hanover around 1805 Adelheid Braun , b. von Cychansky (1777-1836).

However, the baptism date given in the festive gift for Karl Koetschau is taken from the baptismal register of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Düsseldorf, while Thieme-Becker relied on the death register of the church in Hanover for the date of death on August 16, 1811 .
