Johann Wilhelm Leopold Dewitz von Woyna (born December 27, 1784 in Osterode , † February 1, 1865 in Berlin ) was a Prussian major general and commander of the cadet house in Kulm .

Life

Wilhelm was the son of the Prussian captain a. D. , most recently trainer inspector , Daniel Michael von Woyna (1748–1810) and his wife Anna Dorothea, née Wagner (1755–1792).

Military career

Woyna visited the cadet houses in Kulm and Berlin . On April 11, 1800 he was employed as a private corporal in the "von Natzmer" infantry regiment of the Prussian Army and advanced to secondary lieutenant and battalion adjutant until mid-December 1805 . In the Fourth Coalition War he fought near Halle and Lübeck and was wounded while defending the city while retreating to Danzig .

After the Peace of Tilsit Woyna was employed on April 16, 1808 with a patent from May 24, 1803 in the 2nd West Prussian Infantry Regiment . During the Wars of Liberation , he was wounded in the Battle of Bautzen and awarded the Iron Cross, 2nd class. With his promotion to prime lieutenant on June 26, 1813, he was transferred to the adjutantage. He was seriously injured in the battle of Dresden and after his recovery on November 30, 1813, he was used as a staff captain and adjutant to General von Kleist . Due to his wounds, Woyna was no longer fit for field service and was therefore transferred to the cadet corps on May 29, 1814.

On March 17, 1815, Woyna received the Order of St. Vladimir IV. Class and on July 20, 1815 was appointed company commander in the Cadet Corps. On June 7, 1816 he was promoted to captain and on March 30, 1817 with a patent from April 4, 1817 to major . On December 12, 1817, he came to Kulm as director of the cadet institute, was awarded the service cross in 1825 and was promoted to lieutenant colonel on April 7, 1835 . On June 1, 1836 he was appointed commander of the Cadet House and in this position Woyna was colonel on March 30, 1837 and on the occasion of the festival on January 18, 1839 with the Order of the Red Eagle III. Excellent with a bow. Under awarding of the character he was the October 21, 1841, Major General farewell to the statutory pension granted. From November 21, 1841, he received an allowance of 250 thalers in addition to his pension. He died on February 1, 1865 as a Knight of Honor of the Order of St. John in Berlin.

Woyna married Hermine von Knobelsdorff (1792–1828) in Berlin on December 27, 1814 . She was a granddaughter of Major General Kurd Gottlob von Knobelsdorff , and daughter of Major Heinrich Alexander Karl von Knobelsdorff (1764–1807) and his first wife Sophie Frederike Johann von Knobloch (1766–1798)

After the death of his first wife, he married Antonie Pauline Friederike Bobbe (1814-1894), the eldest daughter of the senior teacher of the cadet house Friedrich Bobbe, on March 31, 1834 in Kulm. The couple had a daughter Hermine Luise Pauline (1836-1893), who married the theologian and university professor Bernhard Weiss (1827-1918).
