Jan Hofer (born January 31, 1952 in Büderich ; according to newspaper reports actually Johannes Neuenhofer ) is a former German news anchor . From 1985 to 2020 he was the spokesman for the Tagesschau on First German Television . From October 2004 to December 2020 he was also their chief spokesman.

life and career

Hofer is the son of a craftsman. He grew up on Korbmacherstrasse in Wesel , first attended elementary school in Büderich and later the boarding school of the North Sea High School on Langeoog . After high school and military service , he studied business administration in Cologne . During his studies he worked for a time in the radio department of Deutsche Welle . In 1976 he volunteered at various radio stations. From 1983 he presented his first television programs in the regional program of Saarland Radio. In 1985 he switched to Tagesschau, whose chief spokesman he was from 2004 to 2020. According to his own statements, he developed software for the rosters of the daily news broadcasters. In addition to his work as a newscaster, he also moderated entertainment programs. On December 14, 2020 at 8:00 p.m., he spoke his last daily news. Jens Riewa succeeded him as chief spokesman for the Tagesschau .

He also moderates benefit events, award ceremonies and the election of the German Wine Queen . From 2013 to 2015 he was a member of the jury for the game show This is great! and 2017 member of Tell the Truth's advice team for some episodes . In December 2002 he was voted the most popular Tagesschau spokesperson. In 2007 he played a reporter in the film Neues vom Wixxer . In 2010 he had a short appearance in the series Sesame Street presented: A carrot for two in episode 26 (horse is sick with television) . In 2012 it was also featured in the series Sesame Street: The Secret of the Flower Factory can be seen.

Personal

Jan Hofer is the father of four children. Two sons and a daughter come from his marriage to the pop singer Anne-Karin , from whom he separated in 1996. Since October 2018 he has been with Phong Lan Hofer, b. Truong, married. The couple has a son born in 2015 and lives in Hamburg-Lokstedt .

Since November 2005, Hofer has been the ambassador of the Central Germany Children's Hospice for terminally ill children, their parents and relatives. He is also an ambassador for the German Red Cross and EQ patron (honorary office and quality).

Although several newspapers have researched that Hofer's maiden name is actually Johannes Neuenhofer, Hofer himself denies that "Jan Hofer" is a pseudonym. He tried to change the Wikipedia entry to his person, but was not successful. He also denies the various information about his date of birth. It is assumed that with these statements he is trying to confuse people and hide his life dates.
