Life

Johannes Obleitner attended the state trade school in Innsbruck from 1909 to 1911 and the trade school in Munich from 1912 to 1913. After the First World War he worked in sculptor workshops in Leipzig , Dresden , Berlin and Frankfurt am Main . At the beginning of the 1930s he returned to Tyrol and lived first in the Ötztal , then in Zirl and since 1939 in Leithen in the municipality of Reith near Seefeld . His brother Karl Obleitner senior and his son Karl Obleitner junior were also active as artists.

Obleitner created paintings and sculptures, mainly made of wood, for church, public and private clients. His work ranges from simple, folk depictions to nativity scenes and larvae for Carnival to anatomically designed, expressive sculptures that show his interest in the Italian Renaissance and Andrea del Verrocchio .
