Johannes Posselius (the elder)
Johannes Posselius (the elder) , actually: Johann Possell (* 1528 in Parchim ; † August 15, 1591 in Rostock ) was a German teacher, professor of Greek language and literature and two-time rector of the University of Rostock .
Life
Posselius enrolled at the University of Rostock on May 25, 1542 and studied the Greek language and literature until 1545 under the influence of Arnold Burenius . After completing his studies, Posselius went to schools outside Rostock for some time, in 1545 as vice rector in Wismar and in 1546 as rector in Burg on Fehmarn. In 1550 Posselius taught as the second teacher at St. Marienkirche again in Rostock and at the same time resumed his studies by enrolling again at Rostock University in May 1551. In 1552 Posselius finally received his bachelor's degree and master's degree and was subsequently appointed professor of the Greek language in 1553.
Posselius was appointed rector of the university for the first time in 1566/67. From 1568 to 1569 Posselius accompanied David Chyträus to Austria and, after he was elected rector of the university for the second time in 1569/70, to the Landtag in Sternberg in 1573. Due to his numerous placement activities and his pedagogical knowledge, Posselius received numerous offers at Latin schools in Bremen, Lübeck and Hamburg, all of which he turned down.
