Johannes zu Eltz is pastor of the cathedral parish of St. Bartholomäus and the parishes of St. Bernhard in the north end and All Saints' day in the east end . In January 2018 Eltz called for same-sex couples to be blessed within the Roman Catholic Church, as previously discussed by the Roman Catholic Bishop Franz-Josef Bode from the Diocese of Osnabrück . In 2019, he was one of nine signatories of an open letter to Cardinal Reinhard Marx calling for a “restart with sexual morality ”, including a “reasonable and fair assessment of homosexuality ”. The letter first appeared on February 3, 2019 in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung .
