The Johnson County is a county in the US state of Wyoming . At the 2010 census , Johnson County had 8,569 residents. The county seat is Buffalo .

The county has an area of 10,812 square kilometers, of which 22 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by counties: Campbell County , Converse County , Natrona County , Sheridan County , Washakie County, and Big Horn County .
history
Founded in 1875, the county was the site of the Johnson County War in the spring of 1892 , when the resident cattle barons tried to drive immigrants from Eastern Europe with the help of a gang hired from Texas.
The Johnson County War was themed in the film Heaven's Gate , a 1980 American late-west directed by Michael Cimino .

Johnson County had a population of 7,075 as of the 2000 census . There were 2959 households and 2006 families. The population density was 1 person per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 97.03% White, 0.08% African American, 0.64% Native American, 0.11% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, and 0.55% other races Groups; 1.58% were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 2.09% percent of the population.
Of the 2,959 households, 28.70% had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 57.00% were married couples living together, 7.10% percent were single mothers, 32.20% were non-families. 28.50% are single households and 12.00% have someone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.36 and the average family size was 2.89 people.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 24.20% of residents under the age of 18, 5.60% between 18 and 24 years of age, 23.50% between 25 and 44 years of age, and 28.70% between 45 and 64 years of age 18.00% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females there were 96.60 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 94.30 males.
