George Rigaud (actually Pedro Jorge Rigato Delissetche , born August 11, 1905 in Buenos Aires , † January 17, 1984 in Leganes ) was an Argentine actor in mostly European films.

Life

Rigaud, the son of parents of Italian and Basque origin who emigrated to Argentina, moved to France with his parents in 1914. Active in French cinema since the dawn of the sound film age, he quickly found work. From his film debut in 1931, he was mainly seen as a good-looking lover and charmer in romances and noble snouts with a historical background, less often in adventure stories. He stepped into the early 30s in some French language versions earlier UFA - talkies on, in 1932 as a partner of Annabella in René Clair's Quatorze Juillet seen and played in the Max Ophuls films Flirtation (1934), Divine (1935) and Sans lendemain (1939). He was also a comedy actor in films by Marcel L'Herbier , Jean de Baroncelli , Robert Siodmak and Victor Tourjansky .

As a result of the invasion of the Wehrmacht in France, Rigaud evaded to Italy in 1940, where he briefly stood in front of the camera. In 1941 he returned to Buenos Aires and worked there, only interrupted by a three-year, unproductive stay (1945 to 1948) in Hollywood , for the next 17 years in Argentinian films. After his return to Europe in 1958, he played more mature gentlemen, mostly of middle-class origins, mainly in supporting roles in Spanish and numerous Italian genre films , whose well-groomed appearance sometimes turned out to be a facade. He was often seen as a general, rancher, landowner, politician, bank director or priest. In 1981 he played his last of nearly 200 film and television roles.

Rigaud died in a car accident near Madrid after a motorcyclist hit him. During his career his name was mostly adapted to the country of production; he is also known as Giorgio Rigato , Georges Rigaud , Jorge Rigaud or Jorge Regaud .
