Joshua Cox

Joshua Cox (born August 9, 1965 in Rancho San Diego , California ) is an American actor .

Life

Cox grew up in New York City . Cox made his first acting experiences in theater performances during his time in high school . He studied acting at the Actor's Institute in New York and completed the Actor's Conservatory Training Program at the Purchase College, State University of New York .

Shortly after graduating, he got his first permanent serial role as Dr. Dan Wolek in the television series Love, Lie, Passion (1986-1987). In order to stay afloat financially in the early years, Cox worked as a carpenter for a construction company and as a prop manufacturer . He has had episode roles and guest roles on various American television series. In the series Providence , he appeared in 2000 as an attractive Zimmermann Patrick, who is sought by two women. He also had a guest role in the 2000 sitcom Friends . In 2009 he played the role of private detective Dante Zaretti in the series Melrose Place .

Cox had a recurring series role as Second Lieutenant David Corwin in the science fiction series Babylon 5 . He also appeared in the television films Babylon 5: The Gate to the Third Dimension and Babylon 5: The River of Souls , which were made as part of the television series. From 2000 to 2006 he played a leading role in the American television series Strong Medicine: Two Doctors Like Fire and Ice . He played the role of head nurse, obstetrician, and heartthrob Peter Riggs.

Cox has also appeared in other television, feature films, and independent films. In 1991 he had a small role as a young police officer in the horror film The House of the Forgotten . In the independent film Backgammon (2001) by the director Ziri Rideaux , which was shown at the 2000 Cannes Film Festival , he played one of the leading roles as Karsten. Cox also applied, albeit unsuccessfully, for the role of Faramir in the movie The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers ; the role eventually went to David Wenham .

In addition to his film roles, Cox also worked as a stage actor . He performed on Prairie Avenue at the Rip Torn Stage in New York. At the Hudson Theater in Los Angeles he played in the one-act play Us and Them by the British playwright David Campton . His stage roles included Laertes in Hamlet , and he also played in Brecht's play Der Aufhaltsame Aufstieg des Arturo Ui .

Cox is a trained Rescue Diver with a license from PADI ; in his spare time he does Thai boxing . He also performs as a musician . He is the bass player in the band Skin . With the band Skin he appeared at The Gig , the El Rey Theater and the legendary Roxy Theater in Los Angeles .

Cox has been married to actress Wendy Braun since July 2007 , who was also his partner in backgammon . Cox lives (November 2010) in Los Angeles.
