Julia Mai (triathlete)
Julia Mai (* December 7, 1979 in Frankfurt am Main as Julia Bohn ; † October 7, 2018 ) was a German triathlete .
Career
Julia Bohn ran her first marathon in 2001 when she was 22 at the time, she came to the triathlon in 2001 and started in July 2003 as the youngest participant in the long distance at Ironman Germany (3.8 km swimming, 180 km cycling and 42 km running). She started for the first Offenbach Swimming Club .
In 2008 she took fifth place in the age group at Ironman Germany (Ironman European Championships).
In the course of her triathlon career, she finished a total of 40 long distances and countless sprint, short and medium distances.
Professional athlete since 2010
She started as a professional athlete in 2010 and this year was eleventh at Ironman South Africa in April and sixth at Ironman Regensburg in August .
In 2011 she won her first long distance at ICAN on Mallorca. In 2012 she landed at Challenge Roth after 9:37:37 h with a personal best in twelfth place in the ETU European Championship on the long-distance triathlon (3.8 km swimming, 180 km cycling and a marathon over 42.2 km).
In August 2013 she won the long distance race at the Ostseeman . In 2014 and 2015 she was able to achieve second place here and in 2016 she was third. In 2014 she finished second at the Cologne Triathlon in September and just a week later also second at the Ironman Wales . In April 2015 she finished third in the Strongman All Japan Triathlon and a year later she finished second here. In the same year she won the KM0 triathlon in Madrid.
In October 2016 she finished fourth in the AlpsMan Extreme Triathlon on Lac d'Annecy . In July 2017 Julia Mai won the Triathlon de Vitoria-Gasteiz on the long distance , where she finished second in the previous year. In 2018 she started again in Vitoria-Gasteiz in July , but had to finish the race already on the swimming distance. A week later she was second on the Olympic distance at the Churfranken Triathlon . Private
Since their wedding in October 2015, she started as Julia Mai . She lived with her husband in Karben . Julia Mai was a trained fitness trainer. She worked in a running shop in Frankfurt until 2016 and then started working as a trainer in a fitness studio as a coach. In addition, she became a female ambassador at the bicycle manufacturer Specialized .
On October 7, 2018, Mai died at the age of 38 after a brief and serious illness.
