action

In New York City working broker Michael Cromwell wants to marry again. To do this, he needs a divorce from his first wife Patricia, who left him years ago and moved to the Amazon region . Cromwell travels to South America, where he learns that he has thirteen-year-old son Mimi-Siku.

Cromwell brings Mimi-Siku to New York. Before leaving, the boy promises the tribal chief that he will bring the fire from the flame of the Statue of Liberty with him, but on the spot he discovers that there is no fire there. Mimi-Siku falls in love with Karen, the daughter of Richard Kempster, Cromwell's business partner. Richard Kempster gets angry when Mimi-Siku eats his favorite fish from the aquarium and Karen falls asleep next to the boy a little later. Although she claims that there was no sexual activity, she is said to be sent to a girls-only summer camp .

Cromwell and Kempster get involved in business with Russian mafiosi. The dissatisfied gangsters raid the Kempster's house, tie up Richard and threaten to chop off his fingers. Mimi-Siku helps overpower the criminals.

Mimi-Siku returns to his homeland, his father gives him a goodbye lighter in the shape of the Statue of Liberty and a satellite phone. In return, Michael receives a blowpipe and orders Mimi-Sikus to use it to kill a fly in order to belong to its tribe; he tries it out in the stock exchange building and hits a fly - and his boss, on whose back she sits. A little later, Cromwell moves to South America, he brings the Kempster family and the dead fly with him. Mimi-Siku and Karen greet each other warmly. In the end, it appears that Michael and Patricia will find each other again.

Reviews

James Berardinelli wrote on ReelViews that the film was a remake of the French film Un India in La Ville , which he ranked among the worst films of 1996. He also wrote that the film was "marginally better" than the original and scoffed that Walt Disney , the founder of the responsible production company, The Walt Disney Company , would turn in his grave.

Roger Ebert described the film in the Chicago Sun-Times on March 7, 1997 as "brainless" ("brainless"). He wrote the comedy was no better than the earlier film, which received many of the worst reviews of 1996.

“US remake of a successful French comedy whose gag timing is a bit more pointed, but whose pun is crude. By occupying the main role with a character who not only outwardly has the profile of a human "Ken" doll, the original confrontation between nature child and civilization flattens out beyond recognition. "

Awards

Sam Huntington was nominated for the Saturn Award in 1998 . Tim Allen was nominated for the 1998 Blockbuster Entertainment Award and the Kids' Choice Award .

The German Film and Media Assessment FBW in Wiesbaden awarded the film the rating "valuable".
