Antônio Augusto Ribeiro Reis Júnior , commonly known in German-speaking countries as Juninho , in South America and France also known as Juninho Pernambucano (born January 30, 1975 in Recife , Pernambuco ), is a former Brazilian football player who has also had French citizenship since 2007 .
Juninho was a midfielder who was particularly known for his ability to score goals on free kicks . He scored 44 of his 100 goals for Olympique Lyon from a free kick.
Career
societies
Juninho began his career in 1991 with his hometown club Sport Recife . He then played from 1995 to 2001 for CR Vasco da Gama .
From 2001 he worked for Olympique Lyon in France . There he won the French championship seven times. Despite a valid contract, he was allowed to leave the club free of charge because of his great services to the top French club. In his 300th and final game, he scored his 100th goal for Lyon.
Juninho then moved to the Qatari club Al-Gharafa , where he received a two-year contract.
For the 2010/11 season he returned to the Brazilian first division club Vasco da Gama, for whom he made his debut on July 6, 2011 in the game against Corinthians Paulista under coach Ricardo Gomes . In this game he scored his first goal for Vasco da Gama. Because he went to the dressing room instead of going straight to the doping control after a game against Ponte Preta , he was warned by the Brazilian sports court.
In December 2012, the US Major League Soccer club New York Red Bulls announced the signing of Juninho on January 1, 2013. After half a year he moved back to Vasco da Gama.
On January 31, 2014, Juninho ended his active football career after 22 years at the age of 39.
He returned to Olympique Lyon as Sports Director for the 2019/20 season.
National team
Juninho made his national team debut on March 28, 1999. While he was not at the 2004 Copa America , he was a member of the Brazilian national team at the 2005 Confederations Cup and 2006 World Cup , from which he resigned in 2006. He had played 40 international matches since 1999 and scored 6 goals. In the national team, Juninho was mostly overshadowed by Ronaldinho . When it comes to free kicks, Juninho was often the first scorer in the national team, in a squad of various other dangerous shooters such as. B. Ronaldinho, Roberto Carlos , Júlio Baptista or Kaká .
