The "kk Dragoon Regiment Colonel Ferdinand IV. Salvator", Grand Duke of Toscana, No. 8 was a cavalry association of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy.

(Between 1798 and 1801 the later Dragoon Regiment No. 11 was run as Dragoon Regiment No. 8.)

By decree of March 4, 1854, the regiment was set up in Ödenburg. The entire 4th Division of the Fürst Windisch-Graetz Dragoon Regiment No. 7 , as well as a cadre of batches and veteran crew from each of the Dragoon Regiments No. 1 , No. 2 , No. 3 , No. 4 and No. 7 , the Hussar Regiments No. 5 , No. 7 and No. 12 , and the Uhlan Regiment No. 11 .

In 1860 the regiment was disbanded, and the crew was divided equally in each batch into the vacationer stand of the haulage stand depots No. 6 in Laibach and No. 7 in Verona . Excluded from this were the committed and music-savvy people who were transferred to Uhlan Regiments No. 6 and 11.

annotation

A regiment in the Austro-Hungarian cavalry usually consisted of three to four (exceptionally more) divisions. (A division was used here to refer to a battalion-strength unit. The correct division was called an infantry or cavalry division.) Each division had three squadrons , each of which consisted of two companies . The number of riders in the individual sub-units fluctuated, but was usually around 80 riders per company.

The individual divisions were named after their formal leaders:

  • the 1st division was the colonel division
  • the 2nd division was the lieutenant colonel (lieutenant colonel) division
  • the 3rd division was the majors division
  • the 4th division was the 2nd majors division

The cavalry regiments were reduced to two divisions from 1860.

Until 1798, the regiments were named after their respective owners (who did not also have to be the commanders). A binding regulation of the spelling did not exist (e.g. Regiment Graf Serbelloni - or Regiment Serbelloni). With each change of ownership, the regiment concerned changed its name. After 1798, the numbered designation prevailed, which could possibly be linked to the name of the owner. Due to this constant renaming, the regimental histories of the Austro-Hungarian cavalry are very difficult to follow. In addition, there is the constant and apparently arbitrary, sometimes multiple reclassification of the units (for example: Kuk Dragoon Regiment "Fürst zu Windisch-Graetz" No. 14 ).
