Karl Friedrich Ludwig Georg von Uttenhoven (born June 4, 1778 in Minden ; † June 27, 1834 in Sanditten , Wehlau district ) was a Prussian major general and commander of the 1st division .

Life

His parents were the Prussian major general Johann Adam von Uttenhoven (1741–1809) and his wife Eleonore Marianne, née von Posern (1755–1786).

Military career

Uttenhoven was brought up in his parents' house and entered on May 1, 1789 Corporal Corporal in the Infantry Regiment "Jung-Woldeck" the Prussian army one. During the First Coalition War he took part in the cannonade of Valmy , the battles near Kaiserslautern and Pirmasens as well as the battles near Linnbach, Kettrich, the Schänzel and the storming of Bitsch. Uttenhoven then entered the service of Duke Ernst Friedrich von Sachsen-Coburg-Saalfeld as head hunter master in 1809 . In mid-February 1810 he was re-employed as a captain in the Prussian Army's body infantry regiment . He received his patent on June 4, 1810 with effect from August 23, 1808. On June 16, 1810, he was appointed company commander and transferred in the same capacity to the 1st Silesian Infantry Regiment at the beginning of August 1810. On May 28, 1812 he was assigned to major and the 1st West Prussian Infantry Regiment. In the run-up to the Wars of Liberation on December 22, 1812, he became battalion leader of the newly established reserve battalion on the Vistula.

During the war he fought in the sieges of Magdeburg and Wittenberg, in the latter he was wounded. For the battle around Halle Uttenhoven received the Iron Cross 2nd class. He took part in the battles near Möckern , Luckau , Großbeeren and Dennewitz . For Dennewitz he was awarded the Order of Saint Anna II Class and the Iron Cross First Class. On September 5, 1818 Uttenhoven was commander of the 6th Infantry Brigade and on March 30, 1821 promoted to major general. On July 10, 1825 he received the service cross and on January 22, 1826 the Order of the Red Eagle III. Class. From February 25, 1826 to March 29, 1832 he was commander of the 5th Infantry Brigade . Subsequently, Uttenhoven was initially commissioned to lead the 1st division and two years later he was appointed division commander. He died shortly afterwards on June 27, 1834 on Sanditten . He had suffered a stroke while visiting Count von Schlieben's estate .

Uttenhoven married on December 26, 1804 in Magdeburg Johanne Henriette Katharina von Kleist (1774–1826), an adopted daughter of Colonel Friedrich Wilhelm Franz Philipp Christian von Kleist (1752–1822), adjutant general to Field Marshal Duke of Braunschweig.

After the death of his first wife, he married his niece Wilhelmine Ernestine Barbara Antonie von Alberti in Coburg on October 23, 1826, who was then a lady-in-waiting to the Duchess Auguste von Sachsen-Coburg . The widow married on May 8, 1847 the first lieutenant a. D. Werner Adolf Friedrich Wilhelm von Voigts-Rhetz. Due to Uttenhoven's achievements, King Friedrich Wilhelm IV granted the widow an additional pension of 300 thalers, which was paid even after the widow married again.

Freemasonry

In 1805 Uttenhoven became a member of the Neissen Masonic Lodge "To the White Dove". From 1823 to 1826 he was the chairman of the lodge master of the Freemason lodge "Friedrich Wilhelm zum Eisernen Kreuz" in Torgau , which he took over from his predecessor Viktor von Donnersmarck and handed it back to him after a hapless three-year term.
