Karl Heinrich Maximilian von Czettritz and Neuhaus (born October 13, 1773 in Weida ; † December 9, 1865 in Münster ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Karl Heinrich came from the noble family von Czettritz . He was the son of Heinrich Abraham von Czettritz and Neuhaus (born January 7, 1716 in Diehsa ; † March 21, 1789 in Dresden ) and his wife Maximiliane Friederike Marie, née Senft von Pilsach (born June 26, 1750 in Röpf). His father was a colonel from Electoral Saxony and commander of the cuirassier regiment "von Breckenhoff" and a master of Diehsa.

Military career

At a young age, Czettritz was initially a page at the Electoral Saxon court in Dresden. In 1789 he was employed as an ensign in the Elector-Cuirassier Regiment of the Saxon Army and was promoted to Second Lieutenant there in March 1792 . In the 1793/96 campaign against France, Czettritz took part in the battles near Kaiserslautern , Ückerath , Wetzlar , Herrnstedt and Blieskastel . In the meantime he had been transferred to the hussar regiment in 1794. The campaign in 1806 experienced Czettritz the Saxon contingent and was at the Battle of Saalfeld and the battle at Jena . In 1807 he rose to the rank of staff assistant master and in 1809 to the rank of cavalry officer . In the same year he fought in the Fifth Coalition War against Austria near Linz and Strampfer. In the Battle of Wagram , Czettritz led a squadron , proved himself particularly well and was awarded the Military Order of St. Heinrich . As a major he then took part in the campaign against Russia in 1812 and fought at Propeliany, Kolno, Niesnicz and on the Styr, where Czettritz was wounded again. During the campaign in 1814/15 he fought in battle at Claye and Nanteuil and then transferred to Prussian services .

For Namur , Czettritz received the Iron Cross 2nd class . For a short time he was in command of the 7th Uhlan Regiment and then took over the 12th Hussar Regiment from August 12, 1815 to May 10, 1816 . Then Czettritz came to the 11th Hussar Regiment and was appointed commander there on February 1, 1817 and promoted to colonel on March 30, 1817 . After more than six years, he gave up the regiment on November 30, 1823 and became commander of the 2nd Cavalry Brigade. However, he gave up this command after almost two months and took over the 15th Cavalry Brigade. In this position he was promoted to major general on June 18, 1825. In addition, Czettritz was on July 10th with the service cross and on September 13th, 1825 with the Red Eagle Order III. Class excellent. From March 30, 1828 he commanded the 16th Cavalry Brigade. Czettritz was released from this post on March 18, 1833 due to his health and made available to the king. It was no longer used until it was finally put up for disposal on March 19, 1835 with a pension .

Czettritz was a legal knight of the Order of St. John .

After her untimely death he married Henriette Maria Viktor in Neuwied on February 20, 1826 (born February 20, 1792 in Posen, † March 28, 1849 in Clarens VD ).
