Emil Freiherr von Czettritz and Neuhaus (born December 4, 1801 in Artern / Unstrut , † November 4, 1887 in Münster ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

origin

Emil came from the noble family von Czettritz . He was the son of the later Prussian major general Karl Heinrich von Czettritz and Neuhaus (1773-1865) and his wife Theodora Verona Christiane Karoline, née Drosihn († 1806).

Military career

Czettritz joined the 11th Hussar Regiment of the Prussian Army on June 1, 1817 . There he was promoted to second lieutenant in January 1822 . For further training, Czettritz was sent to the General War Academy from 1831 to 1834 . After his return he became Prime Lieutenant on January 14, 1835 and continued to serve in his regiment until Czettritz was commanded to the topographic office of the General Staff in Berlin from mid-May 1839 to December 1841 . When he was promoted to Rittmeister on January 11, 1842, he was also appointed squadron chief . After two years, Czettritz was transferred to the General Staff, where he remained until the end of December 1849, when he was briefly employed as Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the II Army Corps . From March 23, 1850 to January 12, 1853, Czettritz was a staff officer in the 6th Uhlan Regiment . Then he was given command of the 8th Lancers and was in that position on March 22, 1853 to lieutenant colonel , and on July 13, 1854 Colonel promoted. As such, Czettritz was from September 25, 1855 commander of the 7th Uhlan Regiment . Czettritz was relieved of this command on February 19, 1857, and was appointed commander of the 1st Guard Cavalry Brigade , serving à la suite of the 2nd Guard Uhlan Regiment . From March 18, 1858 he acted briefly as commander of Breslau and was promoted to major general on May 22, 1858, and appointed commander of the 10th Cavalry Brigade in Poznan . On May 10, 1861, he was given the command of the 4th Division . On July 23, 1861 Czettritz took his farewell , received on 18 October 1861 the character as a lieutenant general and was finally on December 24, 1861 board for disposition made.

For the duration of the mobile relationship during the German War , Czettritz was in command of Hanover from June 28, 1866 after the city was occupied by Prussian troops . He was released from this post on August 28, 1866 with the award of the star to the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves.

Czettritz was a legal knight of the Order of St. John and holder of the Russian Order of St. Anne II. Class.
