Karl Johan Schuster (born February 1, 1985 in Karlshamn , Sweden ), known as Shellback , is a Swedish music producer and songwriter .

Life

Karl Johan Schuster was already experimenting with a simple cassette player as a ten-year-old, an 8-track system and a computer with professional software ( Cool Edit Pro ) followed. While still at school, he set up his own recording studio. As a musician, he was active in the Swedish metal scene . He was the drummer for the band TDPP and had a solo project called Ploghbill before replacing Niklas Svensson as the singer of Blinded Colony in 2005 . After two and a half years he left the band. With the production of demos in the metal, rock and singer-songwriter area, he created an extra income.

He met Max Martin and his Maratone studio through a mutual friend . He tried his hand at mainstream pop music and sent Martin his demo. This then decided to include and train Schuster in his production team. He started producing tracks in 2007, and one of his first pieces formed the basis for US singer Pink's number one hit So What . The song was also nominated for a Grammy . Whataya Want from Me , also co-produced with Pink and Martin, became a hit with Adam Lambert and also had a Grammy nomination. Other artists he produced and wrote songs for include Britney Spears , Avril Lavigne , Taylor Swift , Maroon 5 and One Direction .

In 2012 Shellback was awarded the Swedish Government's Music Export Prize for services to Swedish music abroad and in October 2013 it was included in the top 10 list of current music producers by the US magazine Billboard .
