Moves like Jagger is a song by the American pop rock band Maroon 5 , which was released on June 22, 2011 as the fourth single of the third album Hands All Over . The song was written by Adam Levine and Benny Blanco , Ammar Malik and Shellback and produced by Shellback and Benny Blanco.

Musically, Moves like Jagger is an electro-pop song with influences from rock and funk music. The instruments are accompanied by synthesizer beats and electronic drums. The American pop singer Christina Aguilera has a guest appearance with a vocal part in the Bridge .

The song is about how a man impresses a woman with his dance style. This dance style is similar to that of Mick Jagger , the front man of the Rolling Stones . Moves like Jagger was received very positively by music critics who praised the chorus of the song. The voices of Christina Aguilera and Adam Levine were also recognized, with the critics particularly emphasizing the good chemistry between the two.

The song also became a commercial hit, topping the charts in 17 countries. In the United States, Moves like Jagger became Maroon 5's first top ten hit since Makes Me Wonder in 2007 and Christina Aguilera's first top ten since Keeps Gettin 'Better in 2008. The single was up December 2011 sold more than five million records worldwide, making it one of the best-selling singles of all time.

The music video, released on August 8, 2011, was directed by Jonas Åkerlund . It shows, among other things, excerpts from an old music video by Mick Jagger and his iconic dance moves. Background and composition

Moves like Jagger was written and produced by Benjamin Levin and Shellback. When asked about the song, Levine replied, “It was one of those songs that definitely posed a risk; it had a bold message. We really had never put out a song like this before. But it's exciting to do something different, something new. I'm just too happy that everyone likes it. ” Moves like Jagger is a disco , pop and synthpop song with elements of rock and soul . The instrumentation consists of a booming synthesizer, a beat at a fast tempo and electronic drums . Robbie Daw of the music blog Idolator wrote, " Moves like Jagger is reminiscent of Rolling Stone's number one hit Miss You from 1978," adding, "Levine's voice is distorted on the chorus due to the use of auto-tune ." The song used a whistled melody and a funky guitar in the tone type B minor . Music critics praised Christina Aguilera's singing appearance in Moves like Jagger .

About.com's Bill Lamb praised the song, giving it four and a half stars out of five. Lamb wrote: “The funky whistle-driven melody is loose, light and irresistibly funky. The expressive guest appearance of co-judge Christina Aguilera is simply the icing on the cake. Music video

The Moves like Jagger music video was directed by Jonas Åkerlund . It was shot on July 8, 2011 in Los Angeles , California . On July 9, 2011, Aguilera posted a picture of herself shooting the music video on Twitter and wrote: “It's always great to see Jonas Åkerlund. He created the perfect feel for the song. Expect a fun music video. ”The picture shows Aguilera singing with a band in front of the American flag. Four pictures of Levine shirtless were posted online on the same day. More images from the music video shoot were posted on the Internet on July 11, 2011, showing Levine and Aguilera singing in front of a simplified British and American flag while confetti falls from the ceiling. Another picture shows Aguilera singing in front of a black background with her first name Christina in pink print. The Rolling Stones front man Mick Jagger makes an appearance in the music video "through archived video recordings". The music video premiered on August 8th on E! . The video shows an incorrect, simplified version of the Union Jack as the background for parts of the song. For Levine and his band members, the song and the music video are supposed to make the rock legend accessible to a new generation: "We were lucky enough to get Mick's approval [for the music video] and to gain access to a wealth of different video recordings, that's so cool, ”Levine told MTV News when they hit the set of the video. "Not many people have seen [it], especially the younger generation who don't know much about how amazing Jagger really was."

Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera sang Moves like Jagger for the first time on June 21, 2011 at the finale of the American version of the talent show The Voice . On September 8, 2011, they sang the song before the start of the 2011 NFL season . Maroon 5 and Aguilera also sang the song in mid-September on the Ellen DeGeneres Show and on November 5, 2011 on Saturday Night Live , and on November 20, 2011 at the American Music Awards and at the 2011 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show .

On July 9, 2011, Moves like Jagger made its debut at number 8 in the top ten of the American Billboard Hot 100 and finally reached number 1 on September 10, 2011 after many weeks, making it Maroon 5's second number one in the USA. Hit and Aguilera's fifth number one hit. Maroon 5's first number one hit was Makes Me Wonder in 2007 and Aguilera's last was Lady Marmalade ten years earlier in 2001 . At the same time, Levine became the first artist to have a song with his band and a song solo in the American top ten. Moves like Jagger makes Aguilera the fourth artist, after Madonna , Janet Jackson and Britney Spears , who hit the Hot 100 number one in three decades (90s, 00s and 10s). As of December 18, 2011, the song had sold 3,805,000 copies in the United States.

On August 1, 2011 Moves like Jagger reached number 2 in Australia and became Aguilera's highest chart position since Candyman in 2007 and stayed at number 2 in Australia for 10 consecutive weeks. In the week of August 20, 2011, the song peaked at # 1 on the Canadian Hot 100 , becoming the band's second number one hit and Aguilera's third number one hit in nine years, their last number one hit being in 2002 Beautiful .

Moves like Jagger debuted at number 3 in the UK on August 21, becoming Maroon 5's fourth and Aguilera's 15th top ten hit in the UK. Since September 10, 2011, the song has been at number 2 on the UK charts for seven consecutive weeks, setting the All-4-Ones I Swear (1994) record at number 2 for most consecutive weeks without it ever Had reached number 1.
