Alexander Karl Johann Friedrich Jakob Graf von Monts (born June 11, 1793 in Bayreuth , † November 26, 1870 in Liegnitz ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

origin

He was the son of Felix Anton Ludwig Graf von Monts (born March 30, 1765 in Kleve ; † February 5, 1848 in Glatz ) and his wife There Charlotte Karoline Luise, born von Budberg (born March 27, 1770; † December 9 1848 in Glatz) daughter of Lieutenant General Alexander von Budberg . His father was a Prussian lieutenant colonel a. D. , most recently chief of the garrison company of Infantry Regiment No. 23 . The later Prussian general of the infantry Friedrich von Monts was his brother.

Military career

Monts had been attending the cadet institute in Berlin since June 21, 1806, and on July 5, 1811, he was transferred to the normal infantry battalion of the Prussian Army as a porter ensign. On January 24, 1812, he was promoted to second lieutenant and on June 19, 1813, transferred to the newly formed 2nd Guards Regiment on foot . With the regiment , Monts took part in the battles near Großgörschen and Leipzig during the Wars of Liberation . At Bautzen he was wounded by a shot in the right arm and received the Iron Cross, 2nd class. For his accomplishments during the Battle of Paris , Monts was awarded the Order of Saint Anne III. Class excellent.

By May 17, 1818 he rose to captain and company commander in the 1st battalion. As a major , Monts was from March 30, 1834 to March 25, 1841 in command of the 2nd Battalion of the 4th Guards Landwehr Regiment and was then transferred to the Kaiser Alexander Guard Grenadier Regiment No. 1 . Promoted to lieutenant colonel there on April 7, 1842, he was commissioned on October 17, 1844 to lead the 22nd Infantry Regiment in Neisse . After his promotion to colonel on March 22, 1845, he was appointed regimental commander on January 13, 1846. From January 2, 1849, Monts was in command of the 11th Landwehr Brigade, became Major General on April 19, 1851 and commanded the newly established 21st Infantry Brigade in Breslau from May 4, 1852 to February 16, 1853 . He then held the post of commandant of Posen . In this position, Monts received the character of Lieutenant General on September 18, 1858 . With the award of the Order of the Red Eagle First Class with Oak Leaves, he was granted his farewell on May 3, 1860 with the statutory pension .

Monts married Karoline Luise Wilhelmine Antoinette von Byern on March 17, 1823 in Berlin (born March 29, 1802 in Wickersdorf; † November 13, 1866 in Berlin).
