Karl Georg Friedrich Johann von Unruh (born March 18, 1786 in Rügenwalde , † April 22, 1852 in Berlin ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and military governor of Prince Friedrich Wilhelm .

Life

His parents were General Karl Philipp von Unruh (1731-1805) and his second wife Eleonore Hedwig, born von Manstein (1749-1796).

Military career

On April 21, 1804 he enrolled at the University of Erlangen and on May 17, 1805 at the University of Leipzig to study law. In the Fourth Coalition War he joined the infantry regiment "von Thile" of the Prussian Army on July 7, 1806 as ensign with a patent from February 12, 1805 . Unruh advanced to secondary lieutenant at the end of July 1806 and took part in the defense of Breslau . After the fortress surrendered on January 7, 1807, it was made inactive.

After the Peace of Tilsit he came on May 24, 1809, he came to the 2nd West Prussian Infantry Regiment and took part in the campaign against Russia in 1812 . He fought in the battles near Eckau and Kyopen. After the campaign he was transferred to the General Staff of the 8th Brigade on June 1, 1813 and promoted to Prime Lieutenant on September 5, 1813 . During the Wars of Liberation he fought in the Battle of Großgörschen and was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir IV. Class and the Iron Cross II. Class. Then he was in the battles of Bautzen , an der Katzbach , Leipzig and Laon . Also in the battles of Danigkow and Königswartha and the blockade of Landau. On May 11, 1814, he was allowed to travel to London with Field Marshal von Blücher .

On January 5, 1815, Unruh received the oldest post of first lieutenant in the Emperor Franz Grenadier Regiment , on April 19, 1815, he joined the 10th Brigade as an adjutant, but on May 1, 1815, he became an adjutant in the Mainz headquarters. Traveled on July 4, 1815, he came as a captain to the adjutant office of the Landwehr inspection in Potsdam. On March 30, 1821, he was promoted to major and reassigned to the Mainz headquarters as adjutant. On March 30, 1824 he was transferred to the 16th Division . From there he came on May 5, 1827 to the General Command of the Guard Corps and on October 28, 1829 to the General Command of the III. Army Corps . Unruh advanced to the position of colonel and personal adjutant to the Prince of Prussia by the end of March 1838 . On June 8, 1838, he received the Order of St. Stanislaus, Second Class. In mid-October 1838 he was appointed military governor of Prince Friedrich Wilhelm. On January 1, 1840, he resigned from the Adjutantur and was promoted to major general on March 30, 1844 . Since Unruh was already seriously ill, Major Karl Friedrich Wilhelm von Felgermann, director of the Military Boy Education Institute in Annaburg, took over as military governor of Prince Friedrich Wilhelm on July 16, 1844. On October 18, 1848, Unruh received the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd Class with Oak Leaves, and on January 4, 1849, he left with the character of Lieutenant General and a pension.

He died in Berlin on April 22, 1852 and was buried on April 26, 1852 in the cemetery in front of the Hallisches Tor.

Unruh married the lady-in-waiting Mathilde Agnes Beerbohm (1794–1868), a great-aunt of Herbert Beerbohm Tree and daughter of Ernst Heinrich Beerbohm (1763–1838) and Henriette Amalie Radke (1767–1855) in Mainz on June 10, 1823 .
