Karl von Wallmoden-Gimborn (also: Count Karl August Ludwig von Wallmoden-Gimborn , born January 4, 1792 in Hanover , † February 27, 1883 in Prague ) was an Imperial and Royal General of the Cavalry and the last representative of the Counts of Wallmoden .

origin

His parents were field marshal Johann Ludwig von Wallmoden-Gimborn (born April 22, 1736 - October 10, 1811) and his second wife, Freiin Luise Christiane von Liechtenstein (1763-1809). General Count Ludwig von Wallmoden-Gimborn (1769–1862) was his brother.

Life

On June 25, 1813 he went to the Habsburg imperial army , where he came as a subordinate in the Uhlan regiment (Archduke Karl). There he was promoted to lieutenant on October 16 and transferred to the Uhlan Regiment (Schwarzenberg). On April 24, 1814 he came as 2nd Rittmeister in the Cuirassier Regiment (Constantin). He fought with the regiments in the Wars of Liberation .

After the war, he fought the unrest in the Kingdom of Naples and Sicily in 1821 under the command of his brother . On April 16, 1824 he was appointed 1st Rittmeister of the regiment. On May 27, 1831 Wallmoden was promoted to major and transferred to the Chevauleger Regiment No. 6 (Rosenberg). In this regiment he was promoted to lieutenant colonel on April 21, 1833 and to colonel on March 14, 1835. When he was promoted to major general on December 3, 1841, he was given the brigade in Pilsen , and on April 19, 1848 he was appointed field marshal-lieutenant and general in Prague

After the revolution broke out in Hungary , he took over the two cavalry brigades Simbschen and Lederer in Hungary under FZM Julius von Haynau in May 1849 . With this division he made the cavalry battle at Csatád , as well as on August 8 and 9, 1849, the decisive battle at Temesvar . On August 21, he was awarded the Commander's Cross of the Austrian Leopold Order for his behavior .

Wallmoden then became the commander of the 1st and later the 10th Army Corps in Hungary. He took over on July 10, 1850 from FZM Julius von Haynau appointed interim commander of the 3rd Army, and after handing it over to General of the Cavalry Christian von Appel , on October 31 of the same year he became regional military commander in Vienna.

Then he came as a commander in the 7th Army Corps. On December 20, 1850, Wallmoden was appointed privy councilor. In 1851 he was appointed colonel owner of the 5th Uhlan Regiment , which had been newly established from the Banderial Hussars . Since February 28, 1857 Adlatus of the Commander of the 2nd Army FZM Count Gyulai , he was promoted to General of the Cavalry on April 18, 1859. He retired on August 1, 1859 and from then on lived mostly in Prague, where he died on February 27, 1883.

family

On July 15, 1833, he married Countess Caroline Zoë von Grünne (born September 3, 1810 - † August 16, 1894), daughter of Lieutenant Field Marshal Count Philipp von Grünne-Pinchard († January 26, 1854) and sister of the former first adjutant general and Chief Stable Master Count Karl Ludwig von Grünne († June 15, 1884). However, since this marriage remained childless, the Count of Wallmoden died out on his death on February 27, 1883 .
