No amnesty for MTV is a song by the German hard rock band Böhse Onkelz . The song is the only single from their 14th studio album Dopamin and was released on February 18, 2002.

Content and background

No amnesty for MTV ( amnesty = "forgiveness") is a direct criticism of the music channel MTV and the media in general. The viewers would be fooled by the television stations and would consume everything without questioning it. Financial gain is the only goal of the industry and they want to generate as much income as possible. The Onkelz are not dependent on the support of the media and specifically opposed their lies.

This was preceded by a special MTV Masters broadcast about the Böhsen Onkelz in July 2001, which, in the opinion of the band, had been falsified and consistently dealt with it critically. The group then wrote an open letter to MTV in which they sharply criticized the station and those responsible and excluded any future collaboration.

Stephan Weidner said in an interview with the music magazine Rock Hard about the MTV Masters show as follows:

“At first we were enthusiastic about the idea. [...] Because we believed that perhaps with the help of Onkelz you could reach people who are violent or have one foot in the right-wing camp and thus on the edge of society. If our story had been presented correctly, with all the mistakes we made, and shown how misguided we were, how we developed and where our path has led, it would have been a huge opportunity to possibly induce these people to rethink . It really hurt that this opportunity was not taken. [...] We didn't want to gloss over anything, we gave them an insight into everything. [...] The editor in charge, an Iranian woman, kept telling these people that if she smelled anything right here, she would be the first to report about it. [...] You didn't want to see the band portrayed as positively as in the original article. As a result, this editor was dismissed a few days before the broadcast date and the article was quickly re-edited. "

production

The lyrics of the song were written by Stephan Weidner , the head and bassist of the band. Weidner also took over the production together with the Onkelz guitarist Matthias Röhr .
