Hated, damned, adored ... the last few years is the first official best-of album by the German rock band Böhse Onkelz . It was released on October 31, 1994 on the Bellaphon Records label . The name goes back to the song of the same name, which first appeared in 1992 on the album Heilige Lieder . The best of consists of two CDs, with the second CD only containing four remixes. The first CD contains 17 songs from the period from 1980 to 1994, including two new recordings, a remix and a previously unreleased title.
background
The album came about at a time when the Böhsen Onkelz had already fulfilled their contract with Bellaphon Records and were looking for a new record company. Bellaphon, on the other hand, tried to put together another record from their remaining rights to the songs. The Böhsen Onkelz had no legal means to prevent the album from being released. So it was decided to re-record some older pieces to make the record more attractive. The previously unknown, but already older piece Die Böhsen Onkelz do the honors , was also re-recorded for this compilation. After the record was released, the Böhsen Onkelz switched to Virgin Records . Hated, Damned, Adored wasn't the only compilation released by previous record labels against the band's will.

The album entered the German charts at number 99 in the 52nd calendar week of 1994 and rose to number 47 in the coming weeks. Overall, the best of stayed in the top 100 for ten weeks.
In 2003, Gehasst, Verdammt, Vergöttert was awarded a gold record due to more than 250,000 units sold in Germany .

The music magazine Rock Hard writes that the album is "an absolute must for the numerous fanatical supporters of the quartet [...]", but also offers newcomers "an ideal retrospective".
