Adios is the 15th studio album by the German rock band Böhse Onkelz . It was released on July 26, 2004 on the band's own label Rule23 Recordings and is the last studio album before their interim separation. The autobiographical lyrics and the comparatively hard riffs are characteristic of the style of the album . As with the previous album Dopamin , the pre-production for the album Adios took place from the end of September 2003 to spring 2004 on the Balearic island of Ibiza .

Cover design

The Cuban artist Pozo drew the artwork for the album and made a video clip for the song Onkelz vs. Jesus and a making-of that was added to the album as a DVD track. The cover is mostly in blue and white tones and shows the silhouettes of the band members as well as several blocks. In the center is adios in red letters and underneath the Böhse Onkelz band logo in yellow.

Background information on individual songs

Haters

The song title is a mixture of the words "hate" and "Hitler" and phonetically refers to the English term "hustler" (crook, hustler). In this song, the neo-Nazis are accused of wanting to restore the conditions from the time of National Socialism :

Want to repeat history, want to march again
You are the hater - paranoid and confused
You are the hater - pierced once through the brain
Onkelz vs. Jesus

The band describes how they overrated themselves in their early years.

We were stupid, but confident
With a proudly swollen hero's breast
The course was set
The streets of our world
You should have known

This farewell song to the loyal fans was often played as the last song at the remaining concerts after the album was released.

For everyone and none
We are on target and at peace with ourselves
The last one turns the light off
We go
ADIOZ

The song begins and ends with the sound of the sea and is played by three acoustic guitars. ADIOZ is an instrumental and the slowest track on the album.

Michael Edele from laut.de rated the album with four out of a possible five points. He writes that the Onkelz "have [] with" Adios "an album at the start, with which they say goodbye anything but quietly". The texts are still critical, "snappy and clear up grievances of various origins". He notes critically that "the mix of the disc could have been better, because Kevin's singing is often too quiet and it is sometimes difficult to determine whether Kevin or Stefan is singing."

The music magazine Rock Hard gave the album 8.5 out of a possible ten points. The author Götz Kühnemund describes Adios as "the expected round farewell" and "the musically most mature Onkelz album ever". In addition to the “down-to-earth (good) production [...] there are also clear influences of“ modern ”guitar rock bands”. "The band - especially drummer Pe and bassist Stephan" - have "improved their playing technique without losing their gutter charm."

Adios was ranked 393 in the Rock Hard list - The 500 strongest records of all time by Rock Hard magazine .
