Only the best die young is a song by the German hard rock band Böhse Onkelz . The song originally appeared on their sixth studio album on August 26, 1991, Wir ham 'not enough . The track was only released as a single on June 16, 1998 without authorization via the Bellaphon Records label, although the group had left the label in 1994.

Content and background

Like several other songs, the Böhse Onkelz dedicated Only the Best Die Young to their close friend Andreas “Trimmi” Trimborn, who was fatally injured with a knife in a pub in June 1990.

Lyrically, a friendship is sung that led to a bond like that between brothers and is now only a memory. After discovering that only the best die young and that time heals wounds, but that one cannot forget, one's gaze is ultimately directed to the future, in which one will see each other again at some point.

On their official website, the band describes Nur die beste die jung as the “song that cost the band the most strength, gave the fans the most strength” and one of the “most important Onkelz songs of all time”. Only the best die young entered the German single charts at number 95 on July 6, 1998, making it the first single from Böhsen Onkelz to reach the top 100. The song then left the charts, but on July 27, 1998 again entered the top 100 and reached the highest position with rank 86. Overall, the single was able to stay in the German charts for three weeks. In Austria and Switzerland, the song missed the hit parade.
