In addition, Doell, who won the Calder Cup with the Wolves in 2008, played eight games for the Atlanta Thrashers in the National Hockey League and was also active in Sweden , Finland , Austria and Italy . With the EC KAC he celebrated winning the Austrian championship title in 2013 .

Career

Doell spent his junior years between 1997 and 1999 first in his home province of Saskatchewan , where he was active in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) for the Melfort Mustangs . The striker already collected 44 points in his rookie season . This was followed by 141 scorer points in the 1998/99 season , which he collected in just 66 games. At the end of the season Doell, who was thus the league's top scorer, was named both player of the year and most valuable player in the league. Nevertheless, the now 20-year-old was not considered in the NHL Entry Draft . In the summer of 1999, the Canadian moved to the United States because of his studies . Doell ended up at the University of Denver , where he spent the next four years up to the summer of 2003 in addition to studying for the university ice hockey team in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA), a game division of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) , was active. After initially two mixed years, in which he each collected about 20 points, the offensive player developed into one of the leading players of the Pioneers at the beginning of the 2001/02 season . At the end of the season he won the Broadmoor Trophy with the team , the championship trophy of the WCHA.

After his fourth and final college season, which he completed as a member of the WCHA Third All-Star Team, the Canadian received a contract offer from the Gwinnett Gladiators of the ECHL , for which he went on the ice in the 2003/04 season . The attacker knew how to convince there and was given the opportunity to prove his talent in the American Hockey League (AHL), which is more competitive in terms of performance, with the cooperation partner of the Gladiators, the Chicago Wolves . In the ECHL, he was meanwhile - also because of his 74 points scorer - with the John A. Daley Memorial Trophy as rookie of the year award the League and the ECHL All-Rookie Team appointed. With the beginning of the 2004/05 season Doell played mainly for the Wolves in the AHL, where he was finally a regular player until the end of the 2007/08 game year . In the same season he also played eight games for the Atlanta Thrashers in the National Hockey League (NHL), which in turn cooperated with Chicago in the form of a farm team . With Chicago he won the Calder Cup at the end of the season .

In the summer of 2008, the contract with Doell was not renewed despite the success of the Atlanta Thrashers, who signed him in 2004, and so the striker dared to make the leap to Europe. There he played for a season for the Swedish club Leksands IF in the second-rate HockeyAllsvenskan and missed there with the team in the Kvalserien the leap into the first class after they had occupied first place in the main round. He then returned for one season to the Chicago Wolves to go hunting for goals at the beginning of the 2010/11 season in the Finnish SM-liiga for the traditional club Tappara from Tampere . His engagement there again lasted only one season, but in the following game year he found his new old employer in the Chicago Wolves, for whom he completed another 22 AHL games by the summer of 2012.

After a long search for a club, the Canadian moved to another European country for the third time in November 2012 and joined the Austrian club EC KAC from Klagenfurt am Wörthersee . There he initially received a trial contract, which in January 2013 was extended to a fixed contractual relationship until the end of the season. Doell finally won the Austrian championship with the Klagenfurters . He did not get a follow-up contract with the EBEL club, so he found a new employer on trial at VIK Västerås HK from the Swedish HockeyAllsvenskan at the beginning of the 2013/14 season . After 17 missions until the end of October 2013, Västerås refrained from further signing the attacker. It was not until February 2014 that he found a new club after a three-month club search. He received a contract with the Italian club SG Cortina from Serie A until the end of the game year. The Canadian then ended his active career shortly before his 35th birthday.
