Kimberley "Kim" Smith (born November 19, 1981 in Papakura ) is a former New Zealand middle and long distance runner .

Career

A graduate of King's College in Auckland , she attended Providence College in Rhode Island on an athletic scholarship from 2002 to 2005 , where she met her current coach, Ray Treacy.

At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, she was eliminated in the semifinals of the 5000-meter run . The following year she finished 15th at the World Championships in Helsinki over 10,000 m and won the Universiade over 5000 m. In 2006, she was sidelined for most of the season because of an Achilles tendon rupture and pulmonary embolism .

At the 2007 World Championships in Osaka she was fifth over 10,000 m , at the 2008 World Indoor Championships in Valencia sixth over 3000 m and ninth over 10,000 m at the 2008 Olympic Games . In the fall, she competed in the New York City Marathon , but gave up at 32 km.

In 2009 she came as the best non-African runner in 13th place at the World Cross Country Championships in Amman , was eighth at the World Championships in Berlin over 10,000 m and with the national record of 1:09:35 h, seventh at the World Half Marathon Championships in Birmingham .

In 2010 she finished second in the half marathon competition of the Mardi Gras Marathon and improved her national record to 1:07:55 h. She was eighth in the London Marathon and fifth in the New York City Marathon. As part of the Philadelphia Half Marathon , she was able to increase her national record to 1:07:11 h.

In 2011 she ran the fastest time ever for a woman on US soil on the half marathon route of the Mardi Gras Marathon.

Kimberley Smith is 1.66 m tall and weighs 49 kg. She lives in Providence and starts working for Reebok .
