Forgetting and forgiving is a ZDF film that is part of the series Kommissarin Lucas . Christiane Balthasar directed the television film, which was broadcast in 2009. In her tenth case, Commissioner Lucas ( Ulrike Kriener ) is kidnapped by the choleric multiple murderer Tobias Hübner ( Florian Panzner ) and his girlfriend Daniela Lehner ( Maria Kwiatkowsky ) and has to throw everything into the balance to get out of this situation reasonably safe. The doctor Ursel Feyninger ( Johanna Gastdorf ), the mother of one of the victims, also plays an important role in this context .

action

The pensioner Ludwig Lehner is found shot dead in his apartment. Chief Inspector Ellen Lucas summarizes to her team what happened about a year ago. Lehner's daughter Daniela and her friend Tobias Huebner had kept Regensburg in suspense. They are both responsible for six murders. The choice of victims was random, they killed indiscriminately. They only knew their first victim personally, Robert Feyninger, the son of a doctor, with whom they were friends. The story was a media event at the time. The relatives of the victims were even mocked by Lehner at the time. After that there were death threats against her but also against her father.

Together with his new colleague Leander Blohm, Lucas visits Daniela Lehner in the psychiatric department of the prison where she has been since then. Hübner has been on the run ever since. She has nothing more to do with Tobias and is in the middle of the revision process . She was also very sorry for all of this, she had made a mistake; to which Lucas replies that this is a charming way of describing the death of six people. Even if her father judged himself, she is also responsible for it.

Lucas and Blohm take part in Lehner's revision negotiations. During a break, Tobias Hübner storms the courthouse heavily armed and frees his girlfriend. Gesticulating wildly with his weapon, he asks those present to immediately lie down on the bow. All except Lucas follow this request. Huebner's next victim is a young policeman who wants to help. Lucas is taken by both of them at Lehner's intervention. Hübner has provided another car on a remote site that they want to use as a getaway car. Before they drive off, he asks Daniela to shoot Lucas because a hostage is a block on her leg. While Lehner is still thinking, a police helicopter flies over the area. Lucas then keeps the couple hostage. Hübner steers the vehicle into the forest so as to be invisible to the helicopter. When he tries to turn back into the street, he is confronted with Tina Burckhard and Martin Schiff, Ellen's colleagues, who point their guns at him. The duo managed to escape anyway, but Hübner was hit by a shot from the ship.

When Ursel Feyninger enters her house, she suddenly finds herself confronted with the murderers of her son. Hübner asks her to remove the bullet for him. When she refuses, he threatens to slowly kill Lucas by gradually inflicting injuries on her until nothing is left of her. His threat doesn't fail to have an effect on the doctor. The hours that follow become a nerve test for everyone, and for the hostages it is also an unimaginable ordeal.

While Boris Noethen and his people do everything to get Ellen Lucas out of this dire situation in one piece, she tries as best she can to influence Daniela Lehner again and again and to get to her. Hübner, on the other hand, explains to Ursel Feyninger that he had nothing against her son, you don't need a reason to kill, you just do it because you can. It's funny, you shoot a few people and suddenly you are something like famous. The name of her son, however, will have been forgotten at some point.

The appearance of a small autistic boy next door leads to further stress. Hübner locks him up. He insists on fleeing only when it's dark. Ursel Feyninger is supposed to give him a pain reliever injection against the pain of his wound, which is bleeding again. She injects him with an anesthetic. When he notices this, he is furious and holds his gun to the doctor's head. Lucas throws himself in between, a shot is fired. Now completely beside himself, he puts a cloth bag over her head and demands that Daniela shoot the inspector. When she hesitates, he holds his gun to his girlfriend's head. It rings. Boris Noethen asks Ursel Feyninger how she was feeling after the painful negotiation. He manages to smuggle a handbag into the house with a bug sewn into the lining . In the outside broadcast van you can now hear what is being said in the house, Ellen's voice is not among them. The contact is lost again some time later when Hübner gives the bag an angry kick.

Leander Blohm storms the building just as Hübner is about to shoot Lucas in the garage. As Lehner intervenes and hits the policeman with a gun over the head, he too becomes a hostage. Shortly afterwards, the escape vehicle starts moving with the three threatened people. During the journey, Blohm tries to sow distrust between Daniela and Tobias by trying to make Lehner believe that Hübner shot her father. The ruse has an effect. Shortly afterwards, the getaway car is gripped and surrounded by a massive police force, making it impossible to evade. Hübner threatens to shoot one hostage after the other. The head of the LKA advises an attack, but Noethen hesitates for understandable reasons. Then a shot is fired and the windshield turns blood red. Daniela Lehner shot her boyfriend. Ursel Feyninger stammered in disbelief: "She saved my life."

Ellen visits Ursel Feyninger and finds the little autistic boy safe with her. She tells her that Daniela Lehner for the rest of her life in preventive detention will remain, the shot at Huebner not affects it in mitigation. It is now also clear that Ludwig Lehner shot himself.

Private matters of the commissioners

In this episode, Lucas gets a new colleague, Leander Blohm. He comes from a Hamburg shipowner family, has graduated in psychology, he wanted to become a police psychologist, and comes from a wealthy family, which you can see in his demeanor. He drives a Porsche and wears bespoke suits. Martin Schiff from Lucas' team particularly criticizes him for not daring to try to save Ellen from being taken hostage.

When Lucas is having a barbecue on the Danube with her sister Rike and Max at the end of the film, her gaze falls again on the card that Ursel Feyninger slipped under her and which contains the address of her therapist. Talking to her was good for her, she told Ellen. Will the Commissioner call you?

criticism

The lexicon of the international film found: "Exciting (television) series thriller about the Regensburg police officer, focused entirely on the central psycho-duel situation."

Rainer Tittelbach from Tittelbach.tv praised: “The 10th assignment of the always emotionally troubled 'Inspector Lucas' was an above-average thriller in which, alongside Ulrike Kriener, 'Shooting Star' Maria Kwiatkowsky stood out and Florian Stetter had an almost perfect debut as a new colleague . "

news.de rubbed against the name of the new assistant Leander Blohm, said Florian Panzner as Huebner had the necessary “charisma” that would bring a woman to unconditionally submit to the will of a man, but overall was of the opinion: “Despite some inconsistencies 'Forgiveness and Forget' remainsa thriller that is well worth seeing and bravely and consistently breaks new ground. With Florian Stetter as Ellen's new assistant, an interesting successor has been found for Stefan Deuter, played by Thure Riefenstein. After initial difficulties, the newcomer fits in well with the team. If only it wasn't for that name. 'Leander, that sounds so unmanly', Ellen Lucas thinks after their work is done while barbecuing together on the Danube. "

kino.de judged: “Thanks to a concentrated staging and outstanding camera work (Hannes Hubach), Balthasar unleashes a frenzied standstill of enormous intensity: Seldom has a series of thriller with so little story developed so much fascination.” It was also said that the murderous duo of Kwiatkowsky and Panzner are embodied "frighteningly convincing". "The tension is also increased by the parallel action: While the commissioner is talking for her life, the police are feverishly trying to find the hiding place and to save the hostages."
