Konstantin Gloger

Konstantin Gloger OCist (also Konstantin II. Gloger ; born January 16, 1745 in Ellguth , Principality of Neisse , † June 18, 1814 in Patschkau ) was abbot of the Cistercian monastery Heinrichau from 1793 to 1810 and in this capacity at the same time governor of the Duchy of Münsterberg . His term of office in Heinrichau ended in 1810 due to the secularization in Prussia . In personal union with Heinrichau, Konstantin Gloger was also Abbot of Zirc in Hungary from 1793 (with interruptions from 1803 to 1808) until his death in 1814 and thus a member of the Hungarian Parliament .

Life

His parents were Balthasar Gloger and Elisabeth, née Mitmann. After attending school, Konstantin Gloger entered the Cistercian monastery Heinrichau as a novice , where he took his religious vows on March 21, 1770 . He was ordained a priest on June 5, 1771. From 1776 to 1777 he held the office of kitchen prefect, after which he was active in pastoral care: from 1779 as curate in Silberberg and from 1788 administrator in Schönwalde . In 1790 he was appointed prior .

After the death of Heinrichauer Abbot Markus Welzel in 1793, Konstantin Gloger was born on February 4th. J. elected as his successor. After the confirmation on March 5th, 1793, followed on April 9th. J. the infiltration . From 1797 to 1810 he was vicar general of the Silesian Cistercian monasteries. After the monastery Heinrichau in 1810 by the Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm III. was canceled, Konstantin Gloger sought permission from Emperor Joseph II to relocate the convent to Zirc, but was unsuccessful because the Hungarian Lieutenancy in Buda opposed this plan. Subsequently, the monastery library, the archive and the art treasures were largely handed over to the state collections in Wroclaw . The monastery buildings and the associated monastery property were taken over by Princess Friederike Louise Wilhelmine , who later became Queen of the Netherlands. The monastery church was rededicated as a parish church.

Since 1793 until his death in 1814 Konstantin Gloger was in personal union also abbot of the monastery Zirc in Hungary. From 1803 to 1808 he was suspended from this office by the Royal Hungarian Lieutenancy. In 1793, 1796, 1799, 1803 and 1810 he stayed in Hungary as a visitor .

As Abbot of Heinrichau, Konstantin Gloger retired in 1810 and, like the entire convent, had to leave Heinrichau. He was later awarded the Order of the Red Eagle . He spent his last years in Patschau, where he died in 1814. His body was buried in the Heinrichau monastery church, which now served as a parish church.
