Kristina Sabasteanski-Viljanen (born April 1, 1969 in Pittsfield ) is a former American biathlete who took part in eight Winter Olympics and Biathlon World Championships .

Kristina Sabasteanski lives in Richmond and is a soldier. In 1986 she started biathlon. She competed in her first World Cup race in Oberhof in 1995 and finished 41st in an individual. The highlight of the first international season was the 1995 Biathlon World Championships in Antholz , where she was 70th in the individual, 44th in the sprint and eighth with Stacey Wooley , Beth Coats and Ntala Skinner as the starting runner of the season. In the same season Sabasteanski won World Cup points for the first time in Lillehammer as 24th of an individual. The US-American achieved her best result in a major event at the 1996 Biathlon World Championships in Ruhpolding , where she was 20th in the individual and finished 14th in the relay race with Skinner, Joan Miller Smith and Wooley. The following year she took part in the 1997 Biathlon World Championships in Osrblie and came in 41st in the individual and 14th with Skinner, Wooley and Deborah Nordyke as the final runner of the relay.

At the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano , Sabasteanski was used in two races on the Nozawa Onsen tracks . In the sprint she reached 33rd place, in the relay race she was 15th with Skinner, Wooley and Kara Salmela . The not yet Olympic pursuit race was held a little later in Pokljuka , Sabasteanski was 36th. Before she finished ninth in the sprint, her first and only Top ten placement in the World Cup. In 1999 at the World Championships in Kontiolahti, 48th place in the sprint and, with Rachel Steer , Salmela and Jill Troutner, 12th place in the relay race. Due to the weather, the individual had to be relocated to the Holmenkollen in Oslo , where the American came in 60th place. The 2000 Biathlon World Championships took place at the same place, at which Sabasteanski reached 61st place in the individual, was 57th in the sprint, in the pursuit race as a lapped runner did not reach the finish and in the relay race was no longer used because the US - Relay previously lapped was withdrawn from the race. Sabasteanski was 13th in sprint and pursuit in cross-country competitions and won the bronze medal with Ann Sorenson , Troutner and Nicole Hunt behind the representatives from Belarus and Russia with the US relay. At the 2001 Military World Ski Championships in Jericho , she finished 30th in the sprint. Last climax and end of the season were the 2002 Olympic Winter Games of Salt Lake City . At the competitions in her home country, which were held on racetracks in Soldier Hollow , Sabasteanski came in 55th place in the individual and was 15th with Andrea Nahrgang , Salmela and Steer as the last runner of the season.
