action

Mollie has an affair with married businessman Albert and becomes pregnant by him. Very pregnant, she catches him shopping with his new girlfriend and immediately goes into labor. Albert doesn't want to take responsibility for his child, and so Mollie becomes a single parent after reaching the delivery room on a breakneck taxi ride just in time. Taxi driver James Ubriacco is very impressed by the beautiful mother. That's why he not only helps with childbirth, but soon also helps as a babysitter. Baby Mikey, whose voice has been commenting on events since the beginning of the pregnancy, likes James and would like him to be a father. Mollie, on the other hand, doesn't think James would be a suitable father, so she dates some men to find a father for Mikey.

Meanwhile Albert discovers - abandoned by his wife and girlfriend - his father feelings and his alleged love for Mollie. She, on the other hand, recognizes Albert's true intentions and turns away from him.

After Mikey suddenly disappears while visiting James' grandfather in the nursing home and "drives" in a towed car, Mollie and James take up the chase and finally find Mikey again on a busy intersection. You can get him off the street safely and then kiss.

They become a couple and, in addition to a new father, Mikey has a new sibling named Julie.

Reviews

Roger Ebert wrote in the Chicago Sun-Times newspaper on October 13, 1989 that the film had pleasantly surprised him. He criticized the weak plot, but praised the direction by Amy Heckerling and the portrayal of John Travolta.

The Lexicon of International Films wrote: “Comedy about a 33 year old pregnant woman whose wit is that the viewer can hear the baby's thoughts and flippant comments about the adult world. The comic potential of the basic idea is noticeably being used up and cannot carry the thin story alone. "
